Xbox Live Connection Issues
« on: August 01, 2010, 02:31:39 PM »

I searched the forums for the exact answer i needed but i only was able to find bits and pieces of what i needed.  Im fairly knowledgeable on internet networking, not the best.

When i startup my xbox i can connect to xbox live fine. I connect wirelessly. When i join an online game in NCAA Football 11 i get disconnected.  Im guessing my DIR-655 router is dropping the connection. However, when i play games such as Modern Warfare 2 i can stay connected and never get kicked off.  This is strange to me because it would work right for both games correct?

Here is some information about my connection.

My NAT is open.
On the xbox dashboard i have 3 bars out of 4 in my network settings connection.
My router is 2 floors above my xbox
I have Optimum Online
My modem is a Motorola SBV5120
I have not forwarded any ports
Hardware Version: A4
Firmware Version: 1.32NA
SecureSpot - Disabled

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit:

I have 3 computers plugged into the router. All work fine. Occasional connection drops (once a week)
3 laptops connected wirelessly
1 XBOX 360 connected wirelessly

Sometimes the problem occurs when another member of my family logs onto the internet on their laptop. Not every time but occasionaly i get connection drops when the computers are running along with my xbox.

I use this router for Xbox Live all the time. My A4 had problems with 1.32 so I upgraded to 1.33 and it worked for awhile then it had problems too, so I downgraded to 1.21 and haven't had any problems since. I've never heard of the problems you're having before.

We have all wireless devices and I haven't had any problems with Xbox Live. Maybe try 1.33 or 1.34 see if it helps, If it doesn't try 1.21 without securespot.

Thanks for the help. I opened up my UDP and TCP ports to try and solve the issue but its still happening. Im gonna see if updating the firmware does anything but i doubt it will.  I had the same problem with my old dlink router so i figured buying a new one would fix it, nope.

Have you used 'search' on this forum? There have been a few similar cases, see what they have for solution. Asking the same question is not always necessary.
