I have been working with my Dell laptop that has an Intel Centrino 6300 Ultimate N card and I cannot get it to connect to my DGL-4500 at an constant speed.  It is is always fluctuating and will not stay "constant".  I have two other laptops that are running tp-link cards that I had to set the Channel width to: Auto 20/40 to get them to connect at 300.  Please any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am running Firmware 1.15 but will upgrade tonight.

you have the drivers installed and updated for that card? If your other devices are connecting and this one Intel card is giving problems. Are you sure the N card supports the 5Ghz mode? Member, you can only get 300Mb connections with N mode only at 5Ghz band. I would presume there is an issue with that card or driver. Review the 300Mb sticky for connection setup on the 4500. I presume you have and it's working. Seems like something going on with the intel card.

I have the most updated drivers and my other two laptops are connected at 300mbps @2.4ghz.  The Intel refuses to connect at the same constant rate of 300.

kewl, well, I would presume there could be and issue with the Intel card...What is it connecting at? Have you tried putting the 4500 into N mode only at 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz and see if it will connect at 300Mb as a test? With out any of the other LTs online.

I have put the dgl-4500 into 5ghz mode and the Intel card then conencts higher at 240mbps.  I have tried two new Intel cards with the same results, both only getting finicky connection results at 2.4ghz.

ya, what I kinda of though...seems like there is something with the intel card...does it support connecting at 300Mb at 2.4Ghz or only at 5Ghz?

I just had an "ah-ha" moment.  From my other posts I'm trying to figure out how to connect @ 300mbps using the 2.4Ghz band, and I just noticed that setting the channel width to 40Mz rather than the suggested 20/40 auto makes it go to 300, but this is only an option when you have "N only" selected.  Now, maybe there will be some general performance issues or something else, but it seems thats the requirement in the 2.4Ghz band.  I have to got back to N/G mode on the router for other devices, but now at least I know.  Maybe there's a way to force the adapter on it's settings to go to 40Mz, but I'm not sure that will work for me as I still often connect to G networks elsewhere like at work (or any commercial network, coffee shop, airport, etc).

I cant seem to find any documentation that says either 2.4 or 5 is required to attain 300mbps

Going into my adapter and going to the 2.4ghz mode I changed it from 20mhz to Auto and that has helped, I am now seeing up to 240mbps with an excellent conntection.

ok, well, next I would try 2.4Ghz and try switching the 20/40, auto and 40 alone. see if you can get anything better...

I cant seem to find any documentation that says either 2.4 or 5 is required to attain 300mbps

From the sticky. Stickies FTW!!

3) The channel width needs to be set to 20/40Auto, if it is not, the adapter will report a connection speed of 130Mbps. This is a feature that was added for compatibility with Intel 802.11N adapters, as they only operate on a channel width of 20.

Assuming you have met all of these conditions, you should see a 300Mbps connection speed with either the D-Link Utility or WZC.

Note: Not all Intel adapters are the same as D-Links' N line. Some Intel adapters do not support the broader 40 Channel Width option. This (by design) limits their connection speed to 130. Check the specifications of your Intel adapter to ensure that it is capable of bonding on the 40Mhz range to achieve the full 300Mbps.

So yea, it can only obtain that wireless connection if your using the channel width of 40Mhz. Now the question is, does it work at 40Mhz at 2.4 as well as 40Mhz at 5.8? That fact your other chards are working at 300 tells me yes, since the router cant broadcast at 2.4 and 5.8 at the same time. So its likly your Intel card is not campatible with the 40mhz as discussed in the stickey. What's it model number? I can look it up.

Link: http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/sb/CS-025344.htm
"Intel® recommends channel bonding be used in the 5GHz band due to the limited number of non-overlapping channels available in the 2.4GHz band."

Intel only allows binding of channels  {149, 153}, {157,161} when using 40Mhz in the 2.4 band. Thats why Dlink put in the Auto 20/40 in the 2.4 range, so your Intel could connect at N at 20mhz even when other devices are connected at 40hz. Another words, no 300Mb for your Intel card. Sorry :-(
