Block outgoing ICMP packet when BT client is runing
« on: March 15, 2008, 04:25:37 AM »

Dear Lycan,

I'm a new user of DIR-655.  I found that the router is blocking some outgoing traffics "Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3)" when the BT client is running in my NAS.  I captured part of the log below for your reference.  192.168.0.111 is the ip of my NAS.  I have set the Port Forwarding already, however, I am still receiving these.  I believe this slowdown the BT performance.  Is there a way to config the router to allow such traffic?  Please help.

I've put my post here over a week without any response.  Can someone in DLINK please follow up my problem?

That is a standard [info] type message, it's a destination host unreachable reply. It's normal and is not affecting your BT.

Lycan you are saying it's standard message for "destination host unreachable", however I don't want the router to do any ICMP checking/logging if LAN device is sending them out to internet via router.

Moreover I get my logs emailed and my mailbox get filled with loads of log emails as this happens ~40-60 times a day due to log getting full.

I don't understand why would router do checks for LAN device sending ICMP queries? Can this be disabled on Dlink DIR-655?

You can disable the logging of INFO messages. Simple as that.

Is device only informing of "destination host unreachable" or is it actually blocking the packet?
From what it seems from message it is blocking. Why would it need to block it even if host is unreachable?
