DNS 323 folder restriction issue

Please help. i am a newbie in this.

Hello, i encountered issues in applying a restiction on my NAS DNS 323 with firmware 1.09.

Here's what i need to accomplish:
- Apply restriction on each of the user.

My setup:
- NAS DNS 323 with 2 Volumes setup as Standard
- Volume1 is for personal files, each user has designated folder
- Volume2 - media files

Notes:
- Workgroup were the same for all the workstation and the NAS
- Windows login on each of the workstation have the same username and password
entered in the NAS.

Here's what i have tried so far:
- Create users in NAS with same username and password as the windows login of each of the user.
- Assign folder restriction on volume1

Problem encountered:
- Once restriction is applied, any user will not be able to access the NAS (both volumes)
- If i use the explorer to type the nas ip, it will prompt for the username and password.
- it will not accept any username and password except for the admin password for NAS configuration.
 
I tried to ping it, it CAN ping it succesfully.

Please help. i am a newbie in this.

Hi

Have you tried accessing the shares with NO RESTRICTIONS setup whatsoever. Just to check you can actually connect to it properly first.

without the restriction, both volumes works fine.
all user can read/write.

Which version of Windows are you using?

i have 4 workstation at home, i have 2 XP Pro, 1 Vista and 1 Windows 7.
I tried it on Vista and XP PRo and same issue. I didnt tried it with Windows 7.

I will try the solution from the link later at home.

AFAIK the link provided is only for issues in Vista.

Have you got a domain setup?

I don't think that the user name/password used to login will seamlessly work to access CIFS/SMB shares (What's usually called single sign-on). Not without a domain controller/active directory type of thing.

On Windows XP, in order to see the security info that will help you troubleshoot this:
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Goto Tools-> Folder Options -> View.
3. Make sure that "Use simple file sharing (recommended)" isn't checked.

I just want to add that I have successfully used XP home, Vista Home and 7 to access my DNS323 by logging on to Windows with the same username and password that my shares on the NAS are setup with. So as a concept, it can work.

I do that as well, I have a variety of machines and virtual machines from Linux through Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, all have no issues connecting to the DNS-323 or DNS-321.

I stand corrected. Are you running additional services such as Kerberos or is it working out of the box?

No additional services/software. Simply logon to Windows with my username and password - which is the same as the user setup on the NAS.

I did have problems before when the username matched in both cases but the password didn't - but having both match works fine.

Working right out of the box.  I have fun_plug installed, but it worked before the installation as well.

whats the firmware rev you have in you NAS?
This is strange, mine doest work. I have firmware 1.09.

I followed this procedure:
