Motorola SURFboard problem????
« on: March 15, 2008, 04:29:18 AM »

Here we go: I canīt deal with any port forward question of my router... I just canīt put it to work... Ex. I canīt make remore management, I canīt access my external HDD (FTP)... I canīt do nothing outside my LAN... I was wondring if my ISP is the problem... I have a CATV "condo" internet plan... so, they put a Motorola SURFboard modem and distribute the internet signal to apartments through hub/switchs... Iīm not sure if Moto modem is a "modem-router", but Iīm pretty sure modem has DHCP built in function... it alocate IPīs to devices plugged on it... my question is: my WAN ip is 10. 130.x.xxx... I think Iīm in a "doubled-NAT" network, would certainly will make port forwards very difficult or impossible... could be this? How can I check this? Iīm sure my ISP donīt block any port... Thx

I would say you are double Nat'd based on a private IP being on your WAN port. You may be able to contact the condo provider to see if you can get a public mapped IP (no NAT) to your WAN port ($$$).

Most installers do that job on the cheap and they are not likely to have that functionality available to you. If they have a DFL-800 or DFL-1600 and multiple public IP, they could meet your needs, but that doesn't mean they will.
