Can't Ping Network Workstations
« on: August 04, 2010, 05:35:30 PM »

I have a home network with 5 wireless devices. I have recently installed a wireless printer. This presented a problem that I have not previously encountered. It turns out that I cannot ping other wireless workstations on the network. So my workstations do not know that the others are there. This particularly a problem if you have a wireless printer.

So my question is how do configure the router to make the workstations visible to each other.

Thank you.

First make sure that they are all in the same workgroup.  Then check the firewall settings on Workstations.

If you are adding a wireless printer be sure to give it a DHCP reservation in the Router so that its IP remains the same.

I have discovered the solution.

In the router setup go to Advanced > Advanced Wireless. There is a box called WLAN Partition. If that boxed is checked, the wireless workstations cannot see each other. So the solution is to uncheck the box.

My documentation PDF has no information on that setting. Perhaps there is an update to the documentation that I need to get.  :)

Or simply use the HELP section in the firmware setup itself. It's quite complete...
