Firmware Release version v1.23NA
« on: August 06, 2010, 10:25:38 AM »

I see DLink has released a new version of FW for the 4500. Kewl.

I would recommend if your 4500 is working well for you at this time with what is currently loaded, not to update.

Not all issues seen on the 4500 are FW related and should be fully investigated with factory resets and minor configurations, help from the forums and until you can really deem the situation reason for an update.

Check out the forums, ask questions, SEARCH is your friend, read the STICKYs. There is great information out here and were all willing to help each other to find the answers and fix the problems.

Guess I am going to upgrade. If I encounter any issues I will downgrade. Good job for posting this.

Good to hear. Do you think it is performing better than 1.22? I mean the performance should be the same unless they tweak some hidden settings that they did not tell us.

No wired/wireless drops?

Anyways I just upgraded to 1.23NA. I'll see how this performs today.

Back at 1.22NA, I found quite a few of

[INFO]   Wed Aug 04 01:38:29 2010   Iridium: Wireless system with MAC address 0022FB9C2D92 associated
[INFO]   Wed Aug 04 01:38:29 2010   Above message repeated 9 times

I figured it was when it dropped my connection. Not really sure what was up with that and my DGL-4500 is A2. And I know this router has been out for quite a while. Should have been enough time for DLink to fix any of the common issues.

True that. I personally would have liked it if D link would have recall the router and re released a better one without issues, But yet again those issues were never found, they were only users issues. So I think in D links part they saw the router has it had no problems. My router does not give me any problems I love it and will continue to love it until they introduce the new one.

Yea I had a pretty flawless DGL-4300. I believe it is still on a fairly old firmware and it never drops anything. So I figured the DGL-4500 would do the same. However I read a lot of ppl were having connection drops while upgrading to certain firmwares.

Is it just me or is there a typo in this firmware? Anyways once you login the router and you check the firmware it says Firmware Version : 1.23NA,  2010/04/15 Last time I check the firmware was released august 5. So clearly there is a mistake in this firmware, If I am mistaken please can someone explain this for me. Anyways if I am not mistaken I must say that the firmware writers are not very good at there jobs.

I presume that they had built this version back in April and for unknown reasons as of yet, they just released it to the public. Just because they built it then doesn't mean the date has to be close to actual release to public date. They could have been doing there own testing since then and with all the development and issues seen just finalized it then. We were given beta builds for v1.21 that lead up to v1.22. Not sure why the Mod's didn't say anything as I was surprised to see that one of the users posted a message about it. It does seem kind of strange to build something and date it 4 months prior to actual release date.

Strange yes. Specailly since..well if those release notes are the only changes, it seems pretty pointless. I bet alot of people will update just because its "the newest one". Don't get me wrong, I am glad D-link is still releasing updates for the 4500, but just seems..its like alot of work for something so un-important.

I agree, why not release something that helps improve the unit and not to say the least fixes something.  ???

D link should put more work into increasing performances and fixing as they go. I am starting to think they only have 1 group of firmware writers for like 50 + D link routers. Anyways these forums are so active and full of awesome members, I wonder why aren't the mods patrolling no more and posting.

What is "NA" stands for?

It means the firmware is a North American release. Meaning it should only be installed in a N/A router.

And so I quote. "This firmware is engineered for North American products only.
Using this firmware on a device outside of North America will void your warranty and may render the device unusable.

Please contact the D-Link office in your region for firmware updates that are compatible with your D-Link product."
