Author Topic: router won't allow application rules to be entered and other problems  (Read 6745 times)

Hello all,

I've a DIR-615, hardware A1 and firmware 1.10. I've been having a lot of odd problems with it recently. Here's a list:

- For no reason I can discern, about a month ago the router lost all of its settings. One day I tried to log in to it because my wireless printer wouldn't connect and I found that it had gone back to all of the default settings. It also hadn't been saving any logs so I had no way to find out exactly when it happened or why.

- Setting up a listing under 'application rules' to open a port for applications causes the router to hang. I hit 'save' and I don't even get the 'please wait while the router restarts' page. The only way to get access to the router/internet when this happens is to unplug its power.

- If I specify a setting under 'virtual server' the same thing happens. Although sometimes I will get the page that says 'setting saved, please wait 20 seconds.' When this happens it does actually save the setting, but I still have to unplug it to access the router/internet again.

I was able to use those settings previously, before the spontaneous loss of settings last month.

Any thoughts? It's really starting to frustrate me. I can't find my receipt for it but I bought it about this time last year; was hoping it may possibly be covered by warranty still or something.

Try making your changes in the router from a different computer in case there is something in the browser preventing changes.  Try using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, try using Firefox.   Also, try disabling any security software while you are trying to make changes.

I know this is an old post but I just wanted to reply so there is some closure. In my testing I tried changing settings from different OS on the same computer and also different computers, all resulting in the same problem.

I sent an e-mail off to D-Link technical support. They suggested updating the firmware - which I had done already and told them in the e-mail - and also trying a hard reset by doing the following:

To perform a reset, please follow steps below:

Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.

Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 30 seconds and release.

Note:Do not repower unit during this procedure.

Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset.

Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults.

This resulted in my getting a page asking me to select a firmware file and upload it to the router. I selected the firmware file and clicked "update" and nothing happened. The router completely stopped working and wouldn't allow me to get anything other than that page, no matter what I tried to do to get it to accept the firmware file.

I've since thrown out the router and bought a different one.

It looks like its only a REV A1 issue. I have a feeling REV A1 has a lot of issues/bugs even with the latest firmware. REV B2 seems to be working good with the latest firmware however I do experience a good amount of latency and delay even with a Time Warner Cable 10mbps/1mbps up connection. Good luck.

Ahh, those are the instructions to put the router into "Emergancy Room" mode. Why did Dlink give that to you? It does indeed back the firmware up to that which it shipped with. To reset the router to factory settings, just hold the reset button down with the router turned on for about 5 seconds.  Someone goofed.
