I see DLink has released a new version of FW for the 4500. Kewl.

I would recommend if your 4500 is working well for you at this time with what is currently loaded, not to update.

Not all issues seen on the 4500 are FW related and should be fully investigated with factory resets and minor configurations, help from the forums and until you can really deem the situation reason for an update.

Check out the forums, ask questions, SEARCH is your friend, read the stickys. There is great information out here and were all willing to help each other to find the answers and fix the problems.

trying to flash with 22 and 23 amd it keeps failing

i should add this is on a buddies dgl-4500 any ideas he also usign comcast i think itssomething with his laptop i disable  kaspersky adn even exited it turned off his firewall and everything to avail

NVM its his computer it flashed fine using my personal laptop his lap is screwed up something fierce

This is what you need to make sure of. Do a factory reset of the router 1st. Then make sure that the zip file you got from DLINK is extracted and there should be a .bin file that your pointing the web page of the 4500 too. It should be uploaded and it should restart the 4500. Do another factory reset again. After it reboots, then go in and configure the router as needed. remember to save off your config file after you make changes. Helps in later use.

After reformating his system and REPLACING hsi damaged lan cable all was well...

lol still confused as to why it woiuld flash but he couldn't even connect to his wireless printer, but after comparing my config file to his we managed to iron out the problem,

Good to hear....what was the problem? Take a look at the gaming and gamefuel sticky in the main forum. Has some good info for setting up systems even if you don't game, wired and wireless settings will work for any thing. You don't need to use them for printers though. Hope it works well.

Yep....22 and 23 still kept failing for me.  So, I flashed back to 1.15 and all is good again.  Not sure why it fails the way it does.  It's been that way for a while with any firmware past.  I wish they could definitely fix the problems and the rebooting.

SOunds like it could be HW related too, I'm working with 22 and 23 and both are working great here. Makes me wonder why yours isn't.

yay i retired my apple airport 2 weeks ago with the firmware 1.23, it has been extremely stable, my video gaming has been better, 1.22 i was still having the issues with dropped packets etc. but it seems to be stable again, this is bringing me back to how good this router was

I've been testing 1.23NA for about 2 hours now. I've updated from FW 1.15 -> 1.23NA. I have to say it is running stabler for me. Only complaint I have is that, even though the LAN connection is rock solid so far, wireless is still getting a lot of packet drops and errors.  Also this 1.23NA fixed the port forwarding problems I've been having.

Ya, wireless isn't the best however its pretty good..I recommend a mixed mode of G and N only at 2.4Ghz If you don't have any N supported devices then use G mode only @ 2.4Ghz.

Hmm I just changed to your recommended settings. And I made my ssid not visible. Still see a lot of packet drops on wifi and a little bit on lan. O well atleast 1.23NA is stable to a point.

those are acceptable packet losses. If you can't see your SSID means you might have disabled the broadcast of it. Other than this it should show up unless one of your devices does not support G or N mode. IF it supports N, then going to G mode only, the device should still see it and be backwards compatible.

O I know. I make my ssid not visible on purpose.
