Remote Mapping of network drive via VPN
« on: August 12, 2010, 11:49:38 AM »

I have a DNS-323 server at the office that sits behind a cisco RV042 VPN router.  When I am at the office I can access the server via a mapped network drive on my laptop.  I want to be able to access the server remotely via VPN in the same way on my same laptop.  I can successfully VPN to the work router via Cisco's QuickVPN software that you must use for the RV042.  Once the tunnel is up, I can successfully type in the IP address of the server into a browser and pull up the web management interface so I know I am connected to the network properly.  What I cant do is click on my network drive to access the files on the server.
How do I set it up so I can VPN into the network and then be able to access the server via a mapped drive?

Just a thought (and apologies if this is teaching grndma to suck eggs..) but are you drives shown as folders and mapped by network ip? This is the default when you set it up. IF that's the case, you could try deleting the folders(s) and then map again from explorer under network.

The reason I suggest this is that it happened me when I first had the router and I assumed because they appeared in the "My Computer" section they were mapped. If they look like folders in My Computer then this is what has happened.

I would suggest that this question be asked of Cisco/Linksys tech support - since it is more related to configuring the VPN client/server to allow CIF/SMB through, than any changes to the DNS-323 configuration.
