need help please
« on: August 14, 2010, 07:44:17 PM »

hello. i just recently got a 4500 and im having 1 issue with it.

now what happens is, say im playing games on my PC, doesn't matter what game it is. then i tab to view websites. for some odd reason occasionally the websites load very slow or not at all.

so then i hit the buttons on the router and tab through the category and once i hit the Date and Time tab, the bottom box that would typically show the time is black. then my router resets on its own.

That is when the websites load normally and the games run fine.

Can anyone possibly answer this? i personally think it could be a Bug.

What games are you playing? Online games perhaps?

Who is your Internet Service Provider?

And what firmware is your router running?

Hmm, thats a good one. Maybe the game is causing a mass amount of entries in your logs, which it some how polls when your going through those options, and crashes the router? Would explain the slow down, and the relationship to the display on the router. I also remeber a glitch with the display in one of the firmware upgrades.

What browsers are you using? What ISP service do you have? DSL or cable? Any special settings on the 4500 that you have set up. Are you wired or wireless to the 4500?

Ok, well, if this is DSL, then it's presumed that this DSL modem has a internal router included as in my experiences with other DSL modems. This seems to cause a Network translation issue when gaming and such having 2 routers on the same line. It's preferred and recommended that you have the ISP bridge the DSL modem to the 4500 router thus shutting off the DSL routing features so that you can use the 4500's routing features. Once this is done, You can configure the 4500 to use gaming section of the router for PC games and allow the 4500 to route the traffic as needed. Bridging the DSL modem is effect just makes the DSL modem a modem only and allows all the WAN traffic to be routed by the 4500 and not be processed by the DSL modems router. This is a know issue with DSL modems/routers and using a 2nd router on the same line. Let us know how it goes.
