USB Led lights up for Flash Drive but not HDD
« on: August 18, 2010, 12:20:02 AM »

I have a DIR-825, Hardware B1, Firmware 2.02NA.

When I plug in a USB FLash Drive, the USB Led lights up and I can access it on Shareport. When I try to plug in my HDD (a 500GB Verbatim SF500), the Led does not light up on the router, and I can't see the device either on Shareport. The HDD is usually self-powered, but I have also tried to plug it in as well, but it does not work.

Does anyone have any idea of what could cause this to happen?

Thanks!

Can you feel the USB hard drive spin up? The most likely reason is that the USB port on the router is not able to provide enough juice to power up the HDD. Did you try plug in to a wall plug or is it one of those HDD which have two USB cables?

Have you tried another external HDD?
