DIR-655 and Shareport Utility 3.0
« on: August 18, 2010, 11:55:32 AM »

So I have a DIR-655 router, Firmware version 1.32NA. I want the computers on my home network (Windows 7) to be able to access an external hard drive. It will be a 1 TB Iomega or Western Digital, not sure yet. But before we make the big purchase, I want to test it out with a little 4GB Kingston USB Flash Drive.

I downloaded and installed Shareport 3.0 from the DLink site. It detects the flash drive, but won't connect to it. I try to connect to it, and it just says "connecting" for like 30 seconds, then returns to the available status. I've tried 2 different flash drives, and they are good because I tested them directly on my laptop.

Am I missing something? Please help!

You really wqant to use a HDD via NAS technology.....would strongly suggest you NOT bother using shareport for a HDD....but thats me.

You need powered HDD and, when applicable, a powered USB hub.

The Shareport feature is rudimentary, so don't expect miracles. That's the case with all router based USN functionality, every brand.
