I have a wonderful D-Link DGL-4500 Gaming Router. Since I've moved to the sticks and my only "highspeed" option is satellite Internet, the gaming portion doesn't get a whole lot of use but it does allow me and my wife to use our service remotely and network our three laptops, two desktops and one XBox 360 together.
I've ran into one small snag though. The ip address for the HughesNet modem provided with my HughesNet service is 192.168.0.1, the same as the default ip for my router. This was no big deal. I just went into the settings and changed the router to 192.168.2.1
The only problem is that I cannot see my modem behind the router. When the service was being setup initially and I was connected directly to the modem, I could enter 192.168.0.1 and get the modem status page with no problems. It allows be to check throughput, modem status, monitor how close I am to my daily cap (man, I hate caps, especially tiny ones!). The problem started after I connected to modem to the router. Everything still works as far getting service and everything. I can connect to the Internet with no problems. I just can't see the modem status page at 192.168.0.1
I've checked and, as far as I can tell, absolutely nothing appears to be blocked by the firewall. It just times out when I try to go to the modem status ip. Several people mentioned "recycled the router to have it pick up new IP's". I don't see any such option but I would've thought this would've happened after one of my several reboots. Several people have mentioned that, since I can see the page when directly attached to the modem, but can't with the modem connected to the router, and since there seem to be no other ill effects, that it must be a router or firewall issue. I'm starting to agree with them but, for the life of me, I can't see anything wrong.
Any ideas? Anything I can provide that might make this any more clear so that someone might be able to help me? Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to lend me a hand.
Sincerely,
- Byron Followell
