DFL-800 IPSEC between offices & MS RemoteApp
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:19:46 AM »

hello.

We have 2 offices connected together with 2xDFL-800 and IPSEC VPN.
We run our ERP/CRM software at office #1 with datbases and such, to be able to use the ERP/CRM software at office#2 they need to connect via Remote Desktop(formerly terminal services), and that is all good and dandy.

But with newer versions of windows server there is an option for running a remote desktop program as  "RemoteApp", basicly only one program on the remote desktop server without the desktop behind it.

But when we use RemoteApp we have a lot of random hickups, the remoteapp program locks a little while and seems to reconnect, and then it is up and running again.
This occurs several times a day and is rendering use of "RemoteApp" pretty useless.

I have read on a couple of places on internet that this problem has something to do with time out settings in their firewall(however other brands).

This has nothing to do with settings in either the Windows server nor the clients(ive changed all those settings allready), so i am drawing the conclusion that it is in our firewall(DFL-800) the problem is.

How can i go forward in finding a solution for this??

Using of IPsec provides you full open forwarded visibility between networks, so IMHO your problems because speed of connection because it's required much more resources for RemoteApp than for classic RDP.

On one end we (Office #1) we have 30/30Mbit dedicated fibre, and on the other end (Office #2) we have 16/16Mbit of unknown type :)

Is there anything i can do to make this more stable, or is it just to accept it?
