Dns server is not responding
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:51:55 PM »

I cant access internet through my dir-655. I tried both wired and wireless, i reset it, updated it with the latest eu firm, tried with three different computers, i even asked my isp and changed modem but nothing >:( The thing is that until a 10-15 days ago everything was ok. I have win7 in all my systems.

here is the log from my latest try through my wife's laptop:

[CRIT] Sat Jan 31 10:36:31 2004 The addressing of the Internet side learnt thru DHCP conflicts with the addressing selected for the LAN side. Internet communications will be disabled until you have changed the LAN side addressing to resolve the problem.
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:36:10 2004 SOPHIA-PC_Network_1: Wireless system with MAC address 0020007DDD7A disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:36:10 2004 primary: STA with MAC (0020007DDD7A) WPS process closed
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:36:10 2004 primary: WPS end for STA with MAC (0020007DDD7A) on msg: received EAPoL_Fail
[INFO] Sat Jan 31 10:36:10 2004 SOPHIA-PC_Network_1: Wireless system with MAC address 0020007DDD7A associated

Is my dir-655 dying, does problem have to do with win7 - and maybe some win update which has changed something or what?
Any suggestions?

What is the brand of your modem? Is it a modem-router?

Also, check Status>WAN for the IP address.

I would pay attention to this one before looking at faulty hardware:

So first solve this basic networking issue. Perhaps your ISP changed your manin Ip or subnet.

This happens with both cisco modem och netgear modem/router.
I checked wan status and there were no values. I opened modems page and copied all the addresses to the dir-655 while using static-ip but nothing. I also tried to use DHCP and set only prim, sec dns but nothing.
 ??? ???

here is the log after using static-ip:

Basically you have an IP/DHCP conflict on your network. Solve this please and you will see that your problem for DNS will disappear.

Change your internal DHCP scheme so that it doesn't conflict with the IP address you are receiving from your ISP.

Hi greg.m,

Your D-Link DIR-655 came with a CD. Insert the CD and follow its strict instructions for setting up your Router for the First time. Many people, fail to do this and find they can't connect. Many times, they are coming to D-Link from a different manufacturer and the setup is a little different.

See what happens. It can't hurt.

Ill give it a try but im not optimistic. I have this router since 2008 (its en A2 rev) and during these years iv been in 3 different houses with the same isp. Until now itwas working like charme - never have to do some special settings.
But anyway as i said ill try once more with cd... ???

Eddie and Dave are quite correct in their analysis.  I suggest you change the IP of your 655 and start by not using DHCP at all.  You can tweak DHCP later after all the ISP parameters are known.

Eddie and Dave forgot to mention to do an "IPCONFIG /flushdns so your old bogus attemsts will be purged.

You do it by going to "RUN"
type COMMAND
IPCONFIG /flushdns

Your computer will then forget all the old bad addresses.
