Problem using WEP-64 as encription method?
« on: September 02, 2010, 04:26:46 PM »

I got the D-Link 655 to replace my Belkin Wireless N+ router (F5D8235-4) which has a nasty habit of periodically discount my wireless devices (1-2 times a week, and the only remedy that works for me is to power cycle the router).
Since I don't want to change the settings for all my other wireless devices in my house, I kept the SSID and the WEP-64 encryption method (one of my wireless device, a Netgear WGE101 wireless bridge, supports only WEP).
So after setting the 655 up with these parameters (WEP-64, which I verified on the web admin portal in the wireless status, security mode field as wep-open-64), most of my wireless devices, including my iPhone, iPod, Macbook pro, and even the Netgear WGE101, can connect to this D-Link, except my Dell laptop, which has a Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLAN Mini-PCI Card. I tried several time by re-entering the 10-digit WEP key but it just won't connect. I am getting it by for now with a direct ethernet cable to the router. Any sugggestions?
Oh, the other device that won't connect is a Trendnet wireless N gaming adapter (TEW-647GA). I tried to connect it using the WPS push-button method but the router just won't recognize it--time out after 120 sec. And the blue LED on the Trendnet adapter just keeps blinking!
Is there a way to get a syslog for this router so I can make some sense out of all these failures? Any guru out there?
I bought this router based on the mostly positive reviews on Amazon as compared to the Belkin. But it looks like I am getting more headache from this router than from my Belkin--at least every device can connect to it!

After a day of watching my question thread with no meaningful replies (suggestions, not to mention solutions), I came to the conclusion that my specific problem, i.e. using WEP-64 for encryption, may not be a common issue encountered here.
However, I want to get a sense for the other problem I have--that I cannot connect my Trendnet Gaming Adapter TEW-647GA using WPS. Is this a common problem? Are most of you who use Trendnet Adapter able to connect using WPS? If most of you were able to, then I must have myself a lemon here--time to return to Amazon for a replacement.

WEP-64 if you mean 64 character it doesn't work, you have to use 63 ascii character
