Already 5 months and still no FW update
« on: September 06, 2010, 12:37:37 PM »

well heres the thing.. i was about to buy this router for $65 clearance but decided not to cause of the FW problems... but anyways...

I just realized that its been 5 months and theres still no firmware update? its still on the 2.03 for B1 version.

ALSO.. i realized that theres no moderator around. I dont blame them cause they cant do anything about the problems that the router is facing. Well, i suppose they know that dlink's company has major problems with firmware but they cant do anything except wait until a new FW comes out.

I was just wondering... is there a lawsuit against this? cause just by typing some dlink router stuff on google, ive seen horrible information like "stay away from this company" and so on. Even on reviews from newegg, amazon, bestbuy, even cnet... all ive been seeing is "stay away" due to the firmware problems..

OOOOH! and also the smallnetbuilder site... it even said that dlink routers are having huge problem with firmware...

Reason why im speaking out is that I also read that these routers are pretty powerful, but the lack of firmware makes it look like a brick. Anyways.. JUST FYI.. i heard that the netgear wndr3700 is scoring big time... except for a few flaws. The flaws are extremely minor to ANY type of dlink routers out there. well enjoy! hopefully this speech can influence some readers out there.

ooh and btw, i have a dir-655 A4. I had the A3 version for a year and then uploaded the 1.31 and totally messed up my router. I returned it to a store even though its passed the return policy. I explained it to them and they let me exchanged it for a new one. I liked the A3 better because it has more expensive components inside (if you open the router itself). anyways I feel better now... enjoy reading!

yeah, if you note the previous one, it took them almost a year to release 2.03, and there have been so many complaints about it.
I had to run the 2.02 beta because their previous firmware had SIP and xbox wireless problems that affected me. and with that known, it still took them almost a year to release 2.03, which apparently fixed those but made other things worse...so I'm still running beta.
but this is not the first one I've had... I had one of their early mimo routers as well, and same thing, they dropped support for that as quick as they could, and never offered any more firmware updates.
I stupidly bought this one because I too found it on sale, and figured since it was one of their higher end units they might support it better and longer.
I'll tell you what, as long as they're taking to release firmware updates, everyone better pray they don't release a new version, cause as soon as that comes out, don't expect any more firmware updates to fix bugs.
that seems to be their more likely fix...just leave one unit behind with all it's reported problems, and start selling a new POS.
Hopefully 2.02 will hold out ok, as it's been fairly stable for me, and the current bugs don't affect me as much.
at some point, I thing the dd-wrt will stableize and I'll move to that.
and next time hopefully I'll know better...I think I'm going to try netgear, since at least I have several of their switches that have been rock solid, and hoping despite the issues with even their routers, they'll stand behind them better...

if you're reading this and you've not bought...move along...find something else...find a route that get's firmware updates more often then every 9-12 months, has an active forum where the companies look for and address issues, and just in case, has dd-wrt support.

It would be interesting to get feedback from someone from DLink on this.  It seems real odd that this is not getting attention.
