Seagate FreeAgent Dockstar not working on DGL-4500
« on: September 07, 2010, 05:03:28 PM »

Some basic info before I start: I use Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Mozilla Firefox 3.6.9, Pogoplug application version 2.1.2

Hello. I have been using my Seagate Freeagent Dockstar on my Linksys WRT54GC router for a long time without issue, no configuring was required.

I recently upgraded to a D-Link DGL-4500 router (H/W version A2, F/W version 1.23NA). I plugged my dockstar in the same way as I did with the other router, but the blinking light will not stay green, instead it continues to blink orange.

I have tried unplugging and replugging the device's cables (power/data/USB), using new cables, as well as hitting the reset button.

Does anyone know how to get the dockstar working on this router? DHCP server is enabled, and I was unable to see any setting that was limiting UDP, so, I'm kind of stumped right now. I tried logging into the drive on my.pogoplug.com as well as accessing the drive via the drive letter, network path, or included application, to no avail.

The pogoplug site offers the following advice:

http://support.pogoplug.com/entries/221247-basic-network-setup
http://support.pogoplug.com/entries/247696-unable-to-activate-or-access-my-pogoplug-solid-amber-yellow-led

I tried fumbling around with the settings, but networking is not my forté.

Thank you for your time.

I believe you have to enable the usb port for the configuration your going to be using and then also I think you need to install the shareport software:

Thanks for the advice Furry, however, I am not currently using the shareport. The Dockstar device connects via an ethernet port, and the external drives that I have connect to it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about thinking this is not necessary.

Thanks.

Ok was thinking it was a USB device. Need to see if the router is picking up this device and giving an IP address...Basic/Networking/DHCP listing at the bottom.

Thanks for the tip, yeah Furry, I see that my dockstar is not listed there. All of my other devices are. So I imagine it's not being given an IP address, or it is not visible to the router for some reason. Interesting... any further steps to try if it's not listed?

Check the cables. Check the settings of the dock station to see if it's setup for auto DHCP or something that you can get and IP, try manual too. Need to see if there is a status of connection on the dock station to that might indicate network connection, light or something that gives information on the connection. I presume your connecting the dock to the back the 4500 at one of the LAN ports?

Thanks again for the continued replies Furry. I've been following this and another thread at the Pogoplug Forums, and over there, it was determined that my Dockstar is having issues (be it hardware/etc.), and that the router is working perfectly. I'll be sending the Dockstar back to Seagate for a replacement unit.

There seem to be other users with all the same equipment and settings, who are fine.

Cheers.
