I am having problem with the web interface
« on: September 09, 2010, 02:57:50 AM »

Hello to All
This is my first topic and my first device from d-link the dns-323 and might be the last
I had the device for about 2 weeks now and everything was going fine till yesterday when I suddenly could
Not access the web interface. I put the ip address in the address bar in my browser ( tried it on multiple browsers, computers and devices ) and nothing happens it just keep loading forever and I left my macbook pro yesterday all night and still the same. however I can access the drives from the network  and I can see that the dns is connected to my router and is downloading from the torrent and obviously I can see the ip address and when I try it the browser it just hungs but I can access the storage no problem.
When I shut down the dns and removed the electrical plug the put it back and turned it on I was able to access the interface for a couple of minutes then it happened again
here are the specs:
2x Western Digital 2 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD20EADS
firmware 1.09
Bittorrent 1.00
Please Help. I almost cried

D-Links BT clients seems to mess up the admin console. This is a common issue. I believe one option is to revert to the older BT client although I cannot remember with 100% certainty if this resolves it or not. Switching to Transmission BT client voids the warranty but resolves the problem.

Disable any add-ons and do a factory reset. Configure the box. Try again. If all is well, add your add-ons one by one until something breaks. If not, look at your network configuration again.

Who knows, but its a common problem. Could be resources, bad code, memory corruption, just about anything.

When I investigated the problem it appeared to me that:

1. The web interface was querying the BT daemon for the list of torrents and other information.
2. No response was given and the entire web interface hanged on waiting until crash.

It's just bad programming and no effort from Dlink to resolve the bug. One solution to start again the web interface without reboot is running from command line "/web/webs".

P.s. Dlink bittorrent is so buggy that a serious company should be ashamed to leave it in the downloading area.

This implies FFP. In that case the real solution is to run Transmission :)

I had this problem as well after upgrading to 1-08
Ha to do a hardware restart (with DNS-323 button Off and then On) to be able to login once and then be locked out again. Did this about once a day for a week until I got tired and started testing other solutions.

SOLUTION
My solution was to go to admin pages and do a soft restart from there.
Then it all worked again with the BT-pages and also the admin pages (and of course net access)

See my thread reply here for more info
