Adding additional HDD to DLink-321
« on: September 22, 2010, 07:59:22 AM »

Hello -

I want to add a second HDD to my321 and RAID the two together, but I don't want to run the risk of wiping out the 1st HDD.

Anyone done this before without any issues?  Also, what the best RAID setup to use?

Thanks!

Backup ALL the data first!  Truthfully, you should have a separate backup of any data that you value, so I shouldn't have to say this.

RAID-1 is the only RAID level that really makes sense here, you get a single drive failure protection.  RAID-0 or JBOD will lose all the data if either drive fails.

PS: RAID of any level is NOT a second copy.
