Hi all. I got my DIR-655, B1, F/W 2.00NA a few weeks ago and it seems to be doing nicely. It doesn't reboot, drop out or loose connection. My only problem is the auto fallback to 130 Mbps. I have read all the posts here and I have my router set up correctly(?) as per n-only, single channel, wpa2-AES, QOS on/off, channel shaping on/off, 20/40 Mhz, 20 Mhz only, etc. etc. I have a laptop with an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN with a 3rd antenna installed. According to inSSIDer I have a solid -55 dBm also reported with the Intel utility. When I first connect I get 300Mbps and it will rapidy fall and waver untill it settles at 130 Mbps. While using the laptop I can even get a message that it will briefly connect in it's 450 Mbps turbo mode but again will fall and stay at 130 Mbps. I have tried the automatic transmission rate and set it to 270 with no change. All this doesn't seem to be to problematic until I have to transfer files to/from my desktop. Then I wish I could keep 300 Mbps!

Am I overlooking something?

Thanks for the reply. That was the 1st thing I made sure I tried. I didn't want to ask if I didn't follow the suggestions.

I would primarily suspect the Intel NIC.  I've hated all teh PCIe devices I have tried.

No word on your OS/32 or 64bit or driver installed so I recommend you look here for your solution:

Oh, one more thing to try.  I am concerned with your "rock solid -55" in InSSider.  There are times when a too strong signal becomes distorted and therefore problematic.  Try turning the transmitter strength down in Advanced Wireless.

Sorry. Windows 7 Ultimate 64, all the latest Intel drivers and utilities. I tried lowering the signal strength to no avail. Just for grins I'm going to plug the old Atheros AR5895 back in and see what results I get. I've read on another blog that the Intel chip doesn't do too well with the DIR-655 but I've had the same results with a Linksys E2000 router. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll get back with my results.

If you wont N-speed you must use 40Mhz channel with.
WPA2 AES 40Mhz. Check your clients wi-fi software. Download from vendors site !!!

You've gotten good advise from all.  In spite of what some people observe, I have had InSSider fail to report some cloaked routers in the neighborhood as Unknown.  Therefore you should keep changing channels when you do an experiment as the channel you are using may actually be occupied.

Also, UNcheck "Extra Wireless Protection" as part of your drilldown.  That sometimes resolves conflicts with other devices in the area.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Sorry I hadn't got back to you sooner but here is what I tried.
I went back and installed the Atheros AR5895 chip. I was able to get and hold 150 Mbps with 2 antennas. I then went back to the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN with the 2 stock antennas, a 3rd cylindrical antenna and then swapped out the 3rd for a square Hitachi antenna in various positions inside and outside the computer. I still seem to get the same results. Connects at 300 and slowly degrades to 130. Kthaddok suggested using the WPA2 AES 40Mhz setting. The 655 will allow me to use the 20/40 or 20 only. Insider did not report any routers broadcasting 40Mhz. I'm still scratching my head and will update you with any progress.

Use 20/40 and when the router detects a N connection it will try to use 40.
If you use 20 only you will not get N speeds.
