1) If your device uses static I.P. the Lan Computer within Device Info will not be displayed
2) There is a glitch that prevents the router DHCP reservation from working, though I think that firmware 2.00 has manage to resolve this issue. Not perfect but better than firmware 1.00........
3) There are two different firmware edition depending on where you purchase your hardware.
Europe - World Wide (WW)
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/dir_products/dir-685/dir685_v2.00B01.rar
North America (NA)
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir685/Firmware/dir685_fw_200NA.zip

You should really search on the forum for the issues.........

Thx ph0enix. You're very helpfull. Let me try to explain a little better:

I'm testing the router with : 01 Vaio win 7 64 bits Notebook (wireless), an ordinary cell phone (wireless), a wired VoIP Granstream ATA, a wired net 01 TB Iomega disk, a wired PC.

All devices have DHCP reservation in DIR-685 and I'm using MAC network filter.

About the upgrade, I was able to upgrade with Europe - World Wide fw. I ordered the router from Malasya.

As far as I could test, wireless connections has no problem until now.

The current problems I have:

1) I couldn't put USB ports and/or SharePort to work.

2) It seems wired hub has problems: all my cables are ok, coz it was working with a DIR-655. Anyway I checked cables again, and they are ok. The problem is: the ATA and the Net Disk have problems to connect with the router. In a time they are working ok, but sometimes, when I reboot router, for example, they occasionally lose connection without explanation.

3) LAN status in router's web page is completely inconsistent... show one, show two, show nothing...

I couldn't test Storage features yet. I'm waiting the HDD.

I read all the posts about DIR-685.

Thx again.

1) http://www.dlink.com/shareport/ Should check out this link to understand more about Shareport, it has installation and how to use tutorial.
2) Sound like DHCP reservation isn't working, if you are connected directly by wires and want it working fully 100%. Usually there is a limit on the DHCP address reservation, it sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. The device should have the setting change from automatic to a static I.P that you have assigned on the router, this will ensure that you won't lose connection as the I.P address is manually selected than oppose the router does it......
3) The LAN status is flawed, nothing to worry about. It only shows the devices that the router has automatically assigned, if the device is assigned manual the router won't show it........

About the SharePort, nothing new in these instructions... I use proper version (x64)... But isn't router's fault... some problem with my notebook/win7x64 coz with DIR-655 can't put it to work either....

What version you using?
Shareport
3.0 (Latest) - Read it is buggy
http://dlinkedrouter.org/2010/08/31/shareport-3-0/
1.17 (Recommended)
http://dlinkedrouter.org/2010/07/18/shareport-1-17-for-windows/
1.15.9
http://dlinkedrouter.org/2010/07/04/shareport-windows-v1-15-9-and-osx-v1-01-b5/
1.14
1.10

As you can tell I haven't yet tested the Shareport, should try out the latest or recommended.

Notice there is a Sub section about Shareport:

Try using a static I.P using your device, this will avoid the DHCP issue when the router gets confused...........

I think you notice that the DHCP is bugged, it will randomly work or not. You can allocate a I.P reservation, so that the chosen static I.P address isn't effected. Nothing much I can do but if you do have connection issue it is mostly the DHCP to blame.
