PS3 help
« on: October 03, 2010, 02:36:55 PM »

Hi

Searched the forums, and the net, and cannot seem to find an answer to this specific problem so hoping somebody on here can help.

I have stored a lot of videos on the DNS, stored as m4v files. I also have some older files on there stored with an avi file name. The newer files were converted using handbrake 0.94, on the normal preset which should work fine on ps3, and sure enough if i use a USB drive it plays perfectly, but the files do not even show on the PS3, where as the older avi files show and play.

It's obvious that the PS3 can play the file, and the DNS is showing it as it plays fine on my laptop, but just can't seem to figure out why the two aren't going together.....any ideas anybody?

Do you enable the UPNP Server in the advanced section ?

you can try to rename the file extension from .m4v to .mpg. media server just thinks that .m4v files can not be streamed, that's all. at least that worked with .mp4 files for me.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@ Jobine, yes, all enabled.

@47th_ronin, i have done this, and done a full refresh on DNS while PS3 turned off. The one file I tried now shows on PS3, but when click to play it comes up saying Data corrupted. So we seem to be moving in the right direction but still not there yet... Any further ideas? The files still play on PC, just not on PSŁ, and even now when I copy the new mpg file it shows as Unsupported Data on the VIdeo menu. So can see it, just not play it.

Tried extension .mp4 also, and that is as bad as .m4v.

Scratch that, tested a .mp4 and restarted ps3 and works fine.

glad you got it sorted out. btw, there is always (however small) possibility that some file just is unplayable on ps3. i was bleeding my brains out through my nose with one file, then tried to play it from usb stick and it didn't work that way either.
