New DGL-4500
« on: October 06, 2010, 02:48:59 PM »

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a DGL-4500, the router is a step up from my previous router, but I believe I've ran into a few problems.

I recently setup the router about 4 days ago and when using the wireless I notice that after fixing it the first day the next day I was having trouble connecting to the wireless on the DGL-4500. At first I thought it was a fluke so I restarted the router the next day and it worked fine, but after turning in for the night and waking up the next day upon trying to reconnect me and my brother were having problems reconnecting to the router. It would tell use that there was no internet connection even though the router says its online on the screen.

I'm also not sure if there are some settings I should have made in order to really bring my router to its optimum power, I just ran through the setup wizards and left it at that.

One more thing on top of that, I recently looked at the logs on my router and have noticed that my router has been blocking a lot of incoming packets, I'm not sure if this is normal.

Here are the logs:

The above is just a snippet the actual log is much much longer, but it is pretty much a repeat of itself, just constant blocking of packets. I fear that this blocking might actually be affecting my router since it looks like its been doing it a lot.

I know these are a lot of questions, but I really want to love this router after shelling out for the hefty price tag.

Thanks again!

Sounds like the problem isn't between the modem and router, but rather between the PC and the router. A good way to confirm this is if your having problems getting online with 1 computer, but not the other, its a issue between that PC and the router. Sounds like your connecting to the router, but its not letting you online. Number 1 cause of that is security. First some questions.

1. What is your network make up. Modem > 4500 > PC's? How many are wired, how many are wireless?
2. What are your wireless settings. Found here
3. Are you leaving the wireless PC's on overnight. Is this required?
4. What kind of gaming are you doing and on which computers. Any consoles?
5. If you just did the CD, it would really help if you learned more about the router. Alot of it can be found here. Just takes time, and feel free if you have any questions. Its like a car, need to know something about it before you start tweaking it.
