Request RSYNC in next firmware version
« on: October 20, 2010, 12:53:53 AM »

I have  1x DNS-343 and 2x DNS-323 and am wanting to backup my DNS-343 to both my DNS-323.
I thought it would have been an easy option, I guess I was wrong.....

Pretty strange that both D-Link products are not compatible to do just that?!?!

Any plan to add RSYNC in the next firmware?

P.S. in the add-on's section does that mean 3rd parties can make scripts such as sync tools and time machines?

You can do it yourself, if you don't want to wait:

The question of when the next firmware is coming out is a big question that has been asked many times in this forum. Dlink has not bothered to answer any questions regarding updates. Lot of people think there is no firmware updates, but the eternal optimist in me refuses to want to believe it!

Look up fun_plug on the web. You install rsync on the DNS-343 and then back up to the DNS-323!

I don't think rsync will ever be added to the DNS-323. Simply because it's too complicated: server side (with configuration files), client side, mirroring (backup), incremental backup (snapshot).
You just look at the man page for it and tell me what should be included and what should be left out. D-Link will need to provide a front-end that somehow makes sense, which will cover a sub-set of features. It's a nightmare to manage user expectations.
