router freezes/ hangs
« on: October 25, 2010, 01:44:25 PM »

Hi, I've got a problem with my dlink dir-655 router.  I've got a BT/Nas attached to the unit (on a wired connection) and it frequently crashes my router.   I'm not sure what is causing this, bit torrent clients running from my PC have no problems at all (with the router).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
JG

First suggestion would to be examine the router logs and share the info here.

Hi JG,

What brand of BT/Nas is attached? Have you set up a rule in Virtual Servers on the Router for the BT/Nas?

I bought one of these.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NS-320U-USB-Storage-NAS-Print-File-FTP-BT-DLNA-server-/320608703927?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa5c495b7#ht_1897wt_1140

I've set it up with snake os.  It works pretty well, I've got a usb thumb stick in it.

But no, I haven't set it up as a virtual server.  Should I?

Hi JG,

No, it isn't exactly the same as yours is, but download the manual of the D-Link DNS-323 NAS Storage Unit in PDF Format and see how it is set up on the D-Link Routers.

Here is the Link: ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Multimedia/dns323/Manual/dns323_manual_130.zip.

Thanks for the manual.

I use port forwarding for all my services on the NAS - ie, transmission BT & FTP.

I looked at the virtual server page on my router, but it seemed a little bit limited in what I can set it up for.
