UPnP AV Server locked up during refresh!

I tried to refresh the UPnP AV Server and it has locked up at 69% and I don't know what to do now.  Why has that happened and how can I fix it and prevent it from happening again?  Thank you for your help and time!  ...Steve

Do you have a very big library of files? Perhaps you could simply try the process again? It would be interesting to see if it stops in the same place.

Well, I don't know, I guess I could have a lot of files.  Probably around 800GB worth.  Only a few of those files are pics, music or video though. I thought it locked up at 69%, but I guess it just started going really slow after 69%.  I didn't know that you had to stay on the same webpage the whole time for it to keep searching. I thought it would keep doing it after you even turned off the computer but I guess that's not the case.  So, I went back to the webpage and let it run and it's going really slow. It's probably doing maybe about 3% every 24 hours.  I've let it run now for about 4 days straight and it's up to 81% now. I tried on a different computer and different web browser and the same issue. I was just going to let it keep going and maybe it would be finished in a week or so.  I didn't know how to stop the process and start it all over again.  I don't see any menu option to do that.  The only thing I could think of is reset the device to start all over, but I have a bad feeling it's not going to make any difference!  Thanks!

Do you have a very big library of files? Perhaps you could simply try the process again? It would be interesting to see if it stops in the same place.

You don't need to stay on the web page, it's a server side background process. Like when formatting or scanning drives, the web page will show the status when you go back to it.

Well, that's what I thought, but I emailed D-Link TS and they emailed me back and told me to try another computer and another browser. So, if it's a server side process then why would they tell me to do that?  Also, it was at 69% for like 2 weeks when I had my computer turned off, but when I turned my computer off and left it on that webpage it starting climbing back up. It got up to 81% now, but hasn't moved up for 24 hours. D-Link said to call their support number, but I haven't had time to do it.  I was hoping someone here could help me.  Maybe I need to reset it to defaults and try it again?  Any ideas?  Thanks...

They were likely getting you to try another browser to see if your browser was causing the web interface to not function correctly. The actual work being done is server side, but the automatic updating of the web page relies on client-side instigation. So although the NAS might be busy doing its file indexing, you might not see the progress if you've got a browser issue.

I have no idea how long it should take to index 800GB of files.

Are you getting the UPnP server to scan your entire drive for content? You could try telling it to look in your "media" folder instead if you have one.

Yeah, the entire drive. I didn't know you could specify searching specific directories, but everything is all over the place, but I guess I could specify certain locations.  The problem is like I stated before, there is no place to stop the scan or restart it. That's one of my questions.  How do I stop it and restart it? Do I have to reset everything to it's defaults by doing a hard reset on the DNS-321?

I'm not sure. How about a reboot and try again? I'd guess the database file it's creating will be overwritten next time anyway.
It's definately worth keeping your media together in one place. E.g. Media/Music, Media/Video, Media/Pictures or similar then pointing the UPnP server to the root media directory. Otherwise I imagine the NAS is unnecessarily analysing a lot of files.

Well, it finally finished a few days ago, so clicked on the "Save Icon" and it started scanning all over again.  So, it's been a few days and it's up to 58%.  So, I guess I'll have to wait a few weeks again and see what happens.  I guess I can't hit save or it automatically rescans and that it automatically saves. Can you only add one folder?  Well, when it's done I won't hit save again and see what happens. Thanks.

You can only select one folder. That folder can contain sub folders though.
