I have a DNS 323 that I have had for about a year and a half. The other day, I was trying to stream a movie to my PS3, and the DNS 323 disappeared from the list of media servers. I could still access the device from my PC, but I could not get the Media Server to appear on the PS3 when searching for media servers. I decided that a reboot might be in order, so I logged into the DNS 323's web interface and did a restart.
It never came back up. The Blue Power Light just continued to flash (just like it does when it is in the process of booting). It remained unaccessible. I was unable to see it on the network, and it did not respond to pings. I have tried a hard reset via the reset hole on the rear of the unit using every strategy I could imagine or find online. (Ie.. Hold for 15 seconds with power on, unplug, press reset while plugging in power and continue to hold for 15 seconds, and other such strategies.) The blue power light just continues to flash.
I was running RAID 0...dangerous, I know. It did not seem to be an issue with the drives so I ordered another DNS 323, and plugged the drives in. The new unit recognized the drives and all my data is in tact so I am happy about that.
If possible, I would like to get the old unit working again. Any suggestions? It's out of warranty, so nothing is out of the question. There is a 3 volt battery on the main board of the unit. Does anyone know what this is used for?
Is there hope, or can I just add this as another brick to my wall?
Thanks
