Dell D400 running XP pro SP3 wont connect to DIR-655
« on: November 13, 2010, 03:19:05 PM »

I have two Dell Latitude D400 running xp pro sp3.  Neither will connect to my Dir-655.
The windows wireless network manager tries to connect but never does. These computers have
a built in Intel wireless card. I downloaded the dell wireless manager, but I still can't get it to connect.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm afraid I can't be a great deal of help. I had a similar problem with an Intel adapter. I think it was the 5100 AGN. The bad news is that there are tonnes of complaints with these Intel cards. I was only able to get it to connect to the DIR-655 if I disabled all wireless security and ran an open network. Since that wasn't acceptable to me, I tried a number of other things but couldn't achieve a connection with encryption in the time available.

Have you setup the SSID and security on the clients to match what is in the router?

Using any MAC filtering?

Hi tennisbum76,

Reboot the computers, after you enter the SSID Signal Name and Security Passphase in and saved it. Use Windows Wireless Manager.
