« on: November 13, 2010, 03:22:12 PM »

Trying the new Qwest ADSL service (have cable now).. MY Dir 628 does not want to play with the q100 ZyXEL,, anyone have any issues switching to a PPPoE setup? q100 log shows the Dir628 is trying but no ips are every loaded into the Dir 628 and the DIR always saz its trying to find a PPPoE server.. I even put in a bogas logon and password and nothing seemed to care.. My q100 connects to the internet standalone just fine

The reason why this is occuring is because nobody from Qwest told us that the connection type is no longer PPPoE...but DHCP

I have a TrendNET unit and went round n round with this issue.  The box just kept refreshing with 0.0.0.0 for an IP address.  I called their Tech Support line and they said the Qwest MODEM uses PPPoE and the router has to be DHCP.

Change it to DHCP and you'll be in business....stupid Qwest!

I'm sure you've already figure this out, but I thought I would post this to save someone else the frustration I went through with this. It is true, the router should be set up with a DHCP, not as PPoE. However, you will have to change the IP address of the router before you can actually connect to the internet. Both the router and modem have an IP address of 192.168.0.1, which causes a conflict, which means you don't get to the internet. I changed my router IP address to 192.168.5.1 and it worked magic. You can change it by going to Setup > Network Settings and changing the Router IP address. Just remember to log in to the router to change settings, etc you'll now have to go to http://192.168.5.1. Hope that helps.
