dap 1522 for dir 825?
« on: November 13, 2010, 11:51:16 PM »

I have a router dir 825. Can I connect it via wireless to dap 1522? And then to connect dap 1522 via ethernet TV and BD? Which way: a bridge or AP? Help me please.

I have the DIR825, and just bought the DAP1522.  So I'll let you know in a few days how it works.  But that's exactly what I plan to do.  Set the DAP to be a BRIDGE.

My DIR825 is now connected to the internet.  Next, I will set the DAP1522 as a Bridge in another room of the house.  I plan to plug in my home-theatre and the BluRay player into the DAP1522, and then they should wirelessly connect thru the bridge to the internet.

yes, well, it works as a  bridge, but . . . the web interface isn't perfect.  I have it working in bridge mode, using my other desktop PC.  So next step is to hook up the home theatre receiver and BluRay.

But as pablob says, I was planning to use 5 GHz.  For some reason the selection for this is grayed-out.  And the "802.11 mode" is stuck at a/b/g/n.  I don't want that. Why is it grayed-out??  I am going to have to read the instruction manual to get this into N only mode.  (!)

On a positive note, the speed right now is very good.  the dslreports.com speed tools are giving me 10 Mbps internet speed, so whatever mode I'm stuck in does not suck.

It works. 1. I put the installation CD to the laptop; 2 conect dap 1522 (switch back to the bridge) to the laptop; 3 192.168.0.50 after I entered the network settings manually (the wizard), I updated the firmware and did everything in the manual settings; NOTE before it's all done, I set the dhcp addresses assigned to my dir 825 range from 192.168.0.40 to 192.168.0.199. Everything works without a problem. Sorry for my English. :)

i got it working.  wish i knew how.  still can't use the 5ghz channel, which is what i got the thing for in the first place.  but i can update the firmware on my BD player now, and xbox will connect to LIVE.

later i will try streaming a movie from netflix and see how that goes.

this was MUCH harder than it had to be.   the interface seems very buggy.  took 3 or 4 tries to update the firmware,  just a lot of strange stuff going on.  i didn't really change anything from my initial setup and now 5 or 6 hours into it... it connects.

In the dir 825 I formed two networks: 2.4 and 5 GHz (different sssid). When I configuring the bridge in dap 1522, I chose 5 GHz network (SSID). I conected dap 1522 to TV and BD; And now TV and BD have access to the network 5ghz. No problem.  :)

I have my DIR-825 setup with my DAP-1522.  I have a HTPC, TV and Blue-Ray player connected to it.  It setup fine the first time with the switch in Auto mode.  I have now followed these instructions 300Mbps Connection Requirements! Please Read!  and set my Qos to "Voice" for the port that the HTPC is attached.  I play my VIDEO-TS formatted videos from my Windows Home Server with no stutter.

I think I have nearly the same setup.

Desktop PC has 825 router and cable modem, which I have in my bedroom

In the living room is my other Blu-Ray and DirectV, hooked up to the 1522.

1522 is set to bridge mode of course.
Blueray and DirectV box plugged into the 1522.
Using it in 5GHZ draft N mode, works great.

Have you DOUBLE checked, the NAME of your 5ghz channel in your 825 router (dlink_media)

Make sure that same name is in your 1522. (dlink_media)

or what ever name you named the 5ghz band

Like I said, works perfect

I have that combination, too.  I was not able to hook up over the 5ghz band, but had no difficulty in making a very strong connection on the 2.4ghz band.  Apart from an internet connection issue for one device that I've connected to the bridge's ports, I've had no issues, and the connections within the network have been amazingly steady and fast.

Did you try unplugging all cordless phones, and/or putting the bridge really close to the router?  I didn't have to do either, but I'd do this to check for potential interference.

Did you reduce channel width temporarily to 20mhz?  Helps if there is interference in your house, or close by neighbors.

The DAP-1522 works well with the DIR-825, but it can be a PITA to set-up.  Although I seldom ever recommend WPS, it was the only way for me to get this combo paired for longer than a few minutes on the 5ghz band.  Even when I manually typed in the correct info, it would connect, but I got dropouts for some reason.  After the WPS pairing, and some manual manipulation, everything is perfect.  I'm running 1.31 fw on the 1522 and 2.03NA fw on the 825.  Both devices running stock IPs, 192.168.0.1 for the 825 and 192.168.0.50 for the 1522.  DCHP is enabled, but only for 192.168.0.200-254.  All of my routine devices are set up on static IPs in the 100's, which has proven to be more stable, especially with my Denon networked AVR.  I have  a total of 15+ devices that connect on both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands, and I have now gone 12 days without a reset or dropped connection.

Let me know if you see the name (NETBIOS NAME) of your DAP-1522 between the devices connected to the router DIR-825?

I purchased a wireless bridge (IP fix 192.168.0.50) to share the Internet connection to two remote devices: WD TV Live HD (IP fix 192.168.0.52) and a Samsung BD P2500 player (IP fix 192.168.0.51: to try the BD-Live) but when I plug it into my network I have an IP conflict and I can not navigate anywhere, even by the computer which control the Netgear router (IP 192.168.0.1 DHCP range 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.49).

I tried with all fixed IP (192.168.0.xxx Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 DNS 192.168.0.1), but nothing to do, I have the same problem: after a few minutes after plugged the network cable into BD player the network falls.

With wired connection (10 m of patch cable!!!) Samsung BD P2500 have no problem (DHCP and IP fix).

Then look closely in the information relating to devices connected to the Netgear router I noticed that all devices connected through the bridge DAP-1522 have the different IP but same MAC address and I think this could be the cause of the problem that creates the Blu Ray when it's connected to the network through the bridge, because he is not identified with any name but only as UNKNOWN as the bridge (a problem that WD Live not seen: same MAC address but is identified by name as WDTVLIVE).

Because the DAP-1522 mask the MAC address I think that my router goes into confusion with two unknown devices.
