Does anyone know if there is a fix coming in to fix the loud fan noise?

TIA

D-Link used a very very small fan within the router, to make it actually extract air the fan runs at high RPM. Don't think they would fixed this unless your router is overheating, the fan turns on depending on the internal components reach a certain temperature such as the CPU, or accessing HDD.

Though they could have a better range such as 50% - 100% fan power, to make it subtle. Is you fan on all the time?

It's normal for the fan to go on if you accessing the internal HDD, idling it's quiet.

Thanks for the reply.

The fan doesn't make noise all the time but while accessing the drive. It seems that it's programmed anyway to spin full speed even just accessing the drive to be safe to avoid damage due to possible overheat. I would expect it would only spin up full speed when there is temperature goes up above  a defined threshold. The Hitachi drive doesn't seem producing enough heat to worry about.

This is a BIG BIG BIG problem. I had to take out the HDD. So now it is just a router with big problems. Spedd drops and so on, the list is long. Never more a D-Link.

DGL-4300 was a great one put thoughbut only 80 so it isnt an alternativ but it still better than this s***. D-Link should fix this one for there reprosation, I am going to complaine whereever I can about this router

So did you do any trouble shooting to figure out if it was a problem with the router?
What steps did you take?
What is your set up like?
How are you connecting?
You try your HW out at a friends house to see if problems track?
Have you talked to someone at Dlink?

I recommend asking for help and troubleshooting before labeling or complaining to much. There are alot of steps to try to figure out what could be the real problem.

Most issues seen are end user mis-configurations.

Help us help you man. Were here to help and get you on track if we can.

the loud fan is indeed a big problem in this router. All you can do is place a SSD drive, but they are expensive!

I've already send d-link and email arwhith the question whether the short term and firmware upgrade is expected ... so far no answer back.

D-Link router has on the market and thousands of people now and half brackish d-link router stand and pulls his shoulders and doing anything with deep shame ...! >:( >:( >:(

Has anyone made contact with DLink about the FAN and if any of these routers could be sent in to replace the fan? I presume it's a small type of fan. Looking at this unit, seems that for $300, I hope Dlink would step up. Anyone emailed the moderators here? How old are these units?

Is your unit in or out of warranty? If out of warranty, does Dlink offer any out of warranty options?
Some OEMs do offer repairs for a fee. Sometimes it worth it.

If it's in Warranty have them RMA it.

You need to take advantage of the warranty if it's still active man. Need to talk to someone at DLink and get the unit back to them. Put in a note of the issues and state them clearly so they understand what is wrong with the unit.

This is an issue. D-link support on this is pretty much useless. Although there is an option to get another unit if your router is within warranty, I don't think that would help.

This router has some "Green" features to save power. There could be 2 problems which would contribute to this issue. 1. Firmware is buggy in support of the "Green" features.  2. The thermal design of the router is bad.

The firmware fix and addition of another fan ( maybe on the left top ) may fix the problem I think.
If this issue is fixed, more people probably would buy this router.

It's been almost a year and no firmware is released after 2.00NA ( May'10 ). Don't know if there is new firmware or h/w version coming up.

I would still RMA it.  The more units that get returned, the more likely they will see that there is a issue and maybe do something about it.
