The work around is good to know. As long as the noise of the 80mm fan is low, it's cool.
Like I said before, this router thermal design is messed up. It would be great if D-link add another fan on the top left. That probably would meet the cooling requirement needed for the heat generated by the drive.
I don't know if it's technically feasible to add another fan as it depends on the electronics inside it. But then there is always a way for a new h/w version which D-link is known releasing time to time. Not sure how popular and business D-link is getting from this router sell, but new h/w version release will depend on it.
This issue hits a lot because you pay that hefty amount to buy it and then have to deal with it without absolutely no viable technical solution from D-link so far. It's over 2 years since this router was released, I bet many might have complained about this issue to them but yeah who cares? yeah..
