I don't know what the deal is, but I keep losing my connection to the internet. I can login to the router just fine and it will still show that it is connected and has an IP address, but I cannot get to any websites wired or wirelessly.

I have my router wired to my desktop computer, and wireless to another desktop, a laptop, iPod Touch, Samsung Vibrant, Cannon printer, and an Apple TV. I have singled out every single one of the wireless devices to find that no matter which one is connected even if it is the only connection it will drop the internet connection entirely meaning no wired or wireless connection at all. I then disconnected all wireless devices and it still drops the connection. I turned wireless off completely and I stayed connected wired just fine for 2 days. When wireless is on you are lucky to go 2 hours without it dropping and having to be reset or disconnected and reconnected. sometimes it is in as little as 20 min. I have been dealing with this for months now, and I can't seem to figure out what is causing it. Any suggestions?

I have always had this issue as well. It seems to start with the wireless connection failing, and then the wired fails shortly after. I am not sure if the router just cannot handle the load or if I need to update the firmware. I am running firmware v1.21 right now.  ??? It seems to happen consistently when i try to stream the HD video from HULU. I don't know if it is my ISP taking a dump or the router, but it is getting to the point where i am about to go get a different router soon.

Both of y'all check your router logs, I would be curious to see if there are any anomalies. Are you running on cable or DSL? If DSL how far from the telephone demarcation point (DMARC) is your modem? Do you have any splitters between your Cable or Telephone and the DMARC on the outside of the house (splitters reduce the power of the signal by a certain amount each time you use one, usually one or 2 is OK but more than that is causes the signal to get too weak to use)? Are your issues isolated to a specific period of time each day? Does it get worse on weekends? Is the cable/telephone line running parallel to any power lines (this could cause cross talk in the line and varying amounts of interference in the signal coming in)? Does your computer drop when directly connected to the modem?
These are the kinds of questions to think about because they will tell a tale as to whether your problems are router related or telephone/cable company related. Bear in mind that most providers are only responsible up to their DMARC point and may charge to do maintenance beyond that point. I will be looking out for your answers and will try to help with router settings if it is indeed the router causing the issue.

I've had the DIR-655 for a couple of days now and I think I have the same problem.  After I finally got it work with my cable modem at all (which required tech support, because couldn't set up automatically) it keeps dropping the internet connection every 5-20 minutes of so.  It just loses the connection for 20-60 seconds at a time and then picks back up.  This is a real problem because if a webpage or video is in the middle of downloading when the connection drops, it will not resume when the connection picks back up and I have to refresh the page and restart the movie.
The problem is not with the connection between my computers and the router.  Thought holds up perfectly fine whether it is wired or wireless.  The problem is the router not working well with the cable modem.  There is no excuse for this, because when I wire a computer directly to the same modem it never drops the internet connection.

Hi Richie,

Have you remembered to remove power from the Modem, each time you plugged the Modem into the Router or the Computer?

Remove power from the Cable Modem after you switch where you have the Cable Modem plugged into.

Then one minute later reconnect the power to the Cable Modem.
