I recently received a Rev B1 DIR-655 and have been experiencing lock ups (all connections), and wifi dropping (no broadcast) after intervals ranging from 1-3 hours.

I began to research issues and have found individual settings that have worked for me over a 24 hour time period.

1st. Wifi drop and/or no broadcast. A known bug has been shown that WPA2 and AES is causing a lockup and a drop of wifi connections. Not sure of the cause but those that are aware of this have been using WPA with TKIP and no longer experience problems. I, too, have not seen any wifi issues since making the switch.

2nd. Router lockup due to streaming, torrents, gaming etc. I began to test various theories and settings to find out why the router would randomly lock up over a period of time. Initially I began to look at the max simultaneous connections for torrents and reduced the maximum number per client to a more reasonable/manageable amount based off a 35/35 connection.  Even after lowering the amount I would still find that the router would lock up. I haven't found the max connection count for the B1.

I then looked at connection speed, mainly the uplink as that was a dramatic change from a previous ISP. QoS was enabled and I noticed that the Measured Uplink Speed could not be determined because the measured uplink speed had surpassed the max recognizable 2Mbps transmission rate. I attempted to set a higher rate and was denied as 2Mbps was all that was allowed. Going from Automatic Classification to a manual classification nor disabling Dynamic Fragmentation had any effect. I thus have disabled QoS even though it is a feature that I wish to use.

To conclude, WPA2/AES and QoS seem to be having trouble on the new Rev. B1.  I'm still in the process of testing other settings, but for now it is up and running and hopefully this will assist others in troubleshooting their connection problems.

Wow this guide is so helpful for the handful of users with the Rev B1 as myself. I kept on having lock ups and wifi dropping when the router was under heavy use or as mentioned, intervals of 1-3 hours. After I changed the settings on my router to these, it was error free except for one exception.

One thing I changed from this guide was the usage of the WPA and TKIP. I noticed after I changed the settings to WPA-Personal and TKIP, my WiFi connection only reached a max of 54 Mbps, but when i changed it to AES with the WPA-Personal, it went back to 300Mbps but this time with no WiFi dropping! originally before reading this guide, my internet connection was set up with WPA2-Personal with TKIP/AES, and it caused a lot of problems.

Now I can download torrents, game, stream.. without any difficulty except the bandwidth that the provider offers. I was about to lose hope in this router since there was no solution about this problem on this forum.. well I didnt read the entire forum either =x

I followed your instructions and my router is a lot more stable since. Thank you very much! But I had a WIFI drop this morning and was wondering if I got all setting right. What did you do to the WAN Traffic Shape under QoS engine? Did you disable Traffic Shaping and the Automatic Uplink Speed? I still have it checked.
