Question about the firmware? Choice of version
« on: November 25, 2010, 06:59:17 AM »

Hello,

I tryed several firmware, but I didn't find one which work correctly.

With the original one, VOIP does not work.

With the version 2.01B17_EU, I have a SSH tunnel which stopped every 3 min.

With the version 2.02B04_EU, there is no WiFi 5 Ghz.

I do not know what I have to install to obtain all features, if somebody can advise me on a stable release, it will be nice.

Is it possible to install a firmware WW (from Russia) or a firmware NA on a router version EU ? Waht are the impact?

Regards,
Laurent

Hiya, i gave up with voip and did a bypass with a switch.
But im currently on firmware 2.05WW build01 beta01 and think its very stable.

I upgraded from firmware 2.02NA (2.02 was pretty stable, but i had some slowdowns)

download link
ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-825/Firmware/DIR825B1_FW205WWB01Beta01.bin

Hold reset for 40 secs and you can install firmware from both EU and NA

Edit. 31 days since i restarted my router now.

I assume I can load the 2.05WW build01 beta01 (have the Rev b1 with f/w 2.02NA) loading it through the router as usual and there is no need for any resetting?  Looks like that is for the previous person if trying to load EU or NA. Correct?

I am getting the following message when trying to upgrade form 2.02NA to 2.05WW build01 beta01:

Upload Failed

The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the gateway may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a "user" instead of an "admin" - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

I login as admin otherwise I don't think there are any other concerns here either.

Edit: great... at this point it seems I bricked my router even getting the warning about saying it wouldn't load the WW f/w.  I've tried many things and cannot get it up and running.  WTF!!

I can access it via WiFi but the ports won't work including the WAN port.  The WAN port will turn amber and that's it.  I've tried the 30/30/30 method, the unplug power and then hold down reset and plug power in and hold 40-50 seconds, etc.  So at this point I only have WiFi LAN access and no wired ports.

I've had the worse time working with f/w and DLink routers.  In the past I find if I stick with it for 2 to 3 hours I can get it back online.  It just doesn't seem worth it anymore.  Anyone have any ideas or is there router out there that will smoke this thing and I can tee this one up and smack it.

Unplugged it overnight.  Accessed it via WiFi a few minutes ago and reloaded 2.02NA and I'm back up and running again.  Didn't want to try via WiFi yesterday but figured why not (this morning).

Still like to know about the DIR825B1_FW205WWB01Beta01.bin f/w.  I cannot get it to load and get that message. Apparently it's not intended for U.S. version?  Thought WW meant "world wide".

Edit: apparently I couldn't leave well enough alone.  I had read that the 2.03NA was supposed to supply a better 5Ghz signal.  I tried to upgrade and it took the bin file but I started all over again jumping through all the problem hoops.  I finally got it to take and noticed my upload speeds dropped by more than a meg and I couldn't even pick up 5Ghz.  So...I went through another onslaught to downgrade back to 2.02NA and it appears all is fine at this point.  Speeds back to 21.5M down and 3.5M up (Comcast/Denver).

My router came with firmware v.2.01EU. It wasnt stable on that firmware, so i updated it to v2.02US by holding reset for 40 seconds. After that i was happy for a while, but heard about the v2.05 beta and decided to update again using the same method as before.

By holding reset for 40 secs and after that go to 192.168.0.1, you will see the firmware rescue page
(or something like that)
You can load any firmware (EU or US) from that page.

You cant update your router from the "usual" update firmware-page

Not sure how you did this.  "Rescue page or something like that"?

Wish I hadn't tried this as I'm still having issues.  This thing is seriously stubborn about f/w.  I'm back to dead in the water again.  There's got to be a good dual band router out there that works well and isn't a problem when trying to upgrade f/w.  I've done this for years.  Just haven't messed with this router much but it's about as bad as the old DIR-784 I had some time ago.  Worked fine when left alone but when you started messing with much it would take forever to get it back online.

Hold reset for 40-60 secs, i think the "power-lamp" turns orange. Open your browser and go to adress 192.168.0.1. upgrade your router from that page. Thats all i did, and no problems for me.

DLink is sending a replacement. No idea what happened. Not sure if I want to try updating to this version or what. Open WRT and DD-WRT are options as well but I'm a little paranoid at this point.

What benefits do you see from 2.05WW build01 beta01 and did you consider Open WRT or DD-WRT?

I think my router is very stable now, it was stable on 2.02US but upload and download-speed died for a while every week.
I can use Dhcp reservation list now. even if my mac is starting with other then zeros.
Im going to try dd-wrt when i have a backup router

You think it's worth moving to from 2.02NA (.03NA)?  I'm paranoid to try this again.

No, i dont think its worth it if you had problem before. v2.02NA is almost as good.

Sounds like the third party f/w provides some stability for those who are having issues with DLink f/w. Otherwise I'm not seeing any benefits to move to OpenWRT or DD-WRT. Sounds like you lose signal strength with 3rd party on WiFi. Maybe some have seen different.
