Problems streaming BD content
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:55:05 PM »

Hi, newboie here. Scanned the forum topics and saw nothing related. I've had this router for close to two years. I mainly use it to stream recorded and live HD from my Media Center. Works OK except for the occasional "Network Error." I've recently been copying Blu-Ray discs to my hard drive in MP4 format with the resolution and 5.1 audio intact. These play fine on my computer in both Media Center and Windows Media Player, but when trying to play them on my Linksys extender they are all choppy. I figured it was choking on all that data and overloading the wireless, so I switched to a wired connection. Exact same problem. I have the 825 set to gigabit and even isolated the extender outside the firewall by MAC address. Still no go. Am I asking too much of this router to be able to stream this amount of data? It may be the extender is choking on the data and not the router, but since I can stream HD content just fine I'm hesitant to believe that is the problem. Are there any settings on the 825 that would make this possible? Thanks for any help.

Does this issue happen if you don't use the Extender? Need to isolate the problem first see you can narrow down the cause.

Are other computers online gaming or other devices streaming data at the same time when your streaming down thru the extender?

No gaming, just a laptop connected wirelessly. I've tried reducing the bitrate on my conversions to 10,000kbps (Extender is supposed to handle 22,000kbps), but still no luck. I also have a WD TV Live Hub connected (wasn't at time of OP) and other than an occasional hiccup, it streams everything I throw at it regardless of bitrate. I'm guessing it might not be a router issue and probably is the extender. :(

I recommend trying with out the extender between router and the device...to test if you can. Then put it back in line and you should see a difference.

You lost me, try what?. The extender IS the device and it is at the end of the chain, not between. Every other aspect of my network is fine. My problem is when trying to stream HD media from my PC to a WMC extender for viewing on my HDTV.

IS the TV able to connect via LAN to the router direct or do you have to use the extender?

The TV doesn't connect to the LAN at all. It connects to the extender via HDMI cable. The extender is the streaming device. Do you know what a WMC extender is? I appreciate the help, but I think you are unfamiliar with this setup.

Now that I have a idea of what you are dealing with. No I don't have experience with this type of extender. Now that I know how what your setup is like I have a better idea. Was also trying to see if your TV had LAN support or not. Some TVs do now days. However I didn't know. Now I do. So your issue is that your trying to stream movies thru to the WMC extender that connect HDMI to the TV and getting some network errors.

How is the extender connected to the router?

How is the extender connected to the router?
The extender is connected by wire to a 4-port hub, which is wired to my router. I have these issues whether the extender is wired directly to the hub or if I use the extender's internal wireless on the 5mhz band. The extender is a Linksys DMA2200.

What is this hub you have connected?
How about wired direct from the extender to the router bypassing this hub?
