Poor connection

I'm in Canada. I've had my 655 for about a year and really like the unit a lot. Prior to 655 I was using 54GL but 655 is far better for speed,and my kids love it for X-box Live and PSN.

Last week I updated the f/w from 1.21 (original when purchased) to 1.34NA and went without a glitch. Here is the problem; ever since the update I am getting a great number of dropped packets,my connection would freeze. I am almost certain it's related to the new firmware as I NEVER had an issue with the router prior to re-flashing. The DSL line has been checked for noise and everything appears fine. I am running the PPPoE connection thorough a standard dsl line. The router has been configured for PPPoE and since I set it up initially can't see of anything I might have done wrong (but it is possible).
This morning I had to reboot the router once again as my connection had stopped again. After the reboot, it runs great for about several hours and then the problems will start.
If anyone could offer their know-how of what I may have done wrong or incorrect I would be very grateful.

The re-flash was performed with a laptop but connected via ethernet and the  message was that the firmware was updated successfully. I have thought about re-flashing it once again but will hold off until I get some help here.Thanks very much.

Can't help you except to say that at least you are getting intermittent connections.  Ever since I upgraded the firmware I can no longer get an internet connection at all!

I believe there is something seriously wrong with the firmware upgrade.  I'm seriously considering reinstalling the original software and forgetting about this so-called "upgrade".  .

Thanks very much for your input. what did you do to resolve your problem then? This is really getting annoying because I am on a full 6.0 MB pipe and now I am limping at about a tenth of that.

 Looking back, I feel like a moron, because there was nothing wrong with 1.21 and I decided to tinker with. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" is a golden rule. Why would they post the upgrade if people are having issues with it?

Can you re-flash it back to 1.21 as I thought you can't go back to lower version of firmware.Could someone enlighten me with this because if that is the case I'll be going back to 1.21 for sure.  Thanks again.

You can go back to 1.21 just google "DIR-655 Downgrade" and you're all set. Also, my router came with 1.32 I "upgraded" to 1.33 and it wasn't working for me either so I downgraded to 1.21 and all has been well since. I'm here to tell you it works just fine.

Done that and installed 1.31NA. Flying along again. Been perfect for more than a week since the upgrade. The downgrade firmware should be offered to everyone and not be some type hidden entity. I hope D-Link does embraces this culture a bit more. As a result of this scenario, I did order Asus RT-N16 which will have Tomato running on it. Thanks to all those that helped.
