DWA-160 with Verizon Mifi

My XP laptops with built in wireless are connecting to the Mifi without issue but I cannot get a USB wifi adapter to work correctly on XP. It shows connected but throws dns errors.

I have seen conflicting reports on whether you can even use the USB adapters at all, but did see one post where they state a DWA-160 works. The Verizon store says you have to have a laptop, not a desktop, which is pretty obnoxious.

I have spent two hours with Verizon Level 2 support without results.

Anybody have experience with that?
