DIR655 drops connection every 30 min - Plz Help!
« on: December 08, 2010, 10:34:54 PM »

Hi, I recently bought a DIR-655 to match with my DNS-321 and a gigabit NIC on my PC. I updated the firmware and drivers all around, and have all devices set to 1000(gigabit), using 9k jumbo frames, and static IP's. The speeds are as expected (11MBps write, 15MBps read from DNS-321), and I am very happy with the DIR-655's ability to handle lots of connections for torrents.

However, every 15-30 minutes or so the internet drops -- the blinking blue internet light changes to solid amber, and the there is no wireless or wired internet for about 1 min until it links back up (during this time I can still access NAS tho). Does anyone have any suggestions???

I read on this forum to disable daylight savings time, and to set wireless security to always use AES (no TKIP), but to no avail. The hw is B1, and the FW is 2.00

Any suggestions are welcome!

Not sure about the B version of the 655, but we had been told in the past not to use Jumbo Frames with the 655 as it didn't handle them well.

Just do a search for Jumbo Frames and you will see many entries on this subject.

thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried using or not using jumbo frames. For me there is no difference in rate of connection drop, but it does improve my read/write speeds.

I initially said my internet drops every 30min,... sitting  here it has dropped 3 times in the last 10 min! Please help!

Check software for anti-virus / firewall.  There can be a setting to "not trust" your wireless network SSID.

Thanks for the suggestion.... The problem is, it can't be the firewall or antivirus, because even without a connected computer, it still drops connection. For example, I have a cable modem running an ethernet cable into my wireless router. Nothing is accessing the router, but after about 5 min the internet light switches to amber, and there is no internet for about 1 min while it restarts the internet connection.

I'm desperate people, any other suggestions??

I would give DLink tech support a call, may be an internal issue with your router.

Hi jake9115,

On your Home Network, you have a 1 gigabyte speed. What is the speed that you have with the Internet?

Does your Internet Provider limit your speed for torrents?

Turn off or stop torrents for one week and see what happens.

Hey, thanks for the reply! Every suggestion is really appreciated.

My LAN is gigabit, and the internet is 10Mbps (1.25MBps). My ISP is known to throttle back internet speed if torrent downloading is detected, but I've never seen this effect. My torrent activity is encrypted and unlikely to be detected by my ISP.

Also, I've been using a 5 year-old belkin wireless router up until two days ago when I installed the DIR-655, and I've never had this disconnecting problem before.

Do you guys think there is a certain setting enabled on the router that is crashing or something? Has anyone had a similar problem to this before?

Hi jake9115,

Have you called D-Link Support like davet131, suggested? Even a new Router, could be defective.

I am having the same problem of internet dropping every few minutes. I put in a new router of the same rev and firmware and it does the same thing. A Linksys router works fine though. But I don't want to use the linksys as it has no security features like the DIR-655 does.

DLink has crap for firmware these days. It seems that the Russian hacked firmware downgrade might be worth a try. But I am not sure if it works on the newest hardware revision. But at the very worst I have to throw away the DIR-655...but it's not doing much good now.

Hi mstexas,

Call D-Link Tech Support and if it doesn't work, ask for an RMA. I wonder, if people trying to connect to the Router, is causing an overload and causing the D-Link to Reboot. Check the logs. Have them Emailed to you.

I have been getting the logs email every morning at 9 am or when they are full. Here is the log from yesterday at 9:00 am and 9:16 am and 9:52am all put into one log. It was filling them up so quick it emailed three in one hour.

I don't really see anything that gives me an idea when may be taking place but I would love to hear other views.

Here is Part 1 of the combined log. The other parts will be in a seperate posts due to size.
