Shareport printing does not work correctly ?
« on: December 12, 2010, 08:12:39 PM »

I have hardware version B1, firmware version 2.00NA and several computers (wired & wireless) with Vista & Win 7 x64 and a Brother HL1440 printer.

When I print something it comes out scrambled, images missing or cut off, empty pages, etc. This same setup worked fine when it was directly into one computer, then shared on the network though windows sharing. The problem was that computer had to be running to print off the network. I got the dir655 since it had printer sharing but so far its not been of any help.

I havent seen up firmware updates since I got it a few months ago, any word if this problem will be fixed ?

During the brief time my router was working, I tried plugging my Epson Stylus NX415 into the USB port.  The router didn't recognize the printer.  Don't know if it's because of the underlying problems with the router, or because that particular feature is always problematic.

The router only acts a pass-through. The Shareport program is needed to actually connect to the printer and ofcourse an up to date printer driver is needed on the client PC.

Some printing issues are due to ancient/old printer drivers, other issues can be solved by tweaking the connection time to the printer: when set too short the flow of data is cut off, resulting in only half a page.

I bobjr,
Did you find a solution ??? I have the same kind of problem as you can see in my message (in the "shareport for PC" category (see below).
Thanks.

Hi,
I spent few hours with the guys of d-link to solve this problem and his final answer was: "I have no answer, sorry..."

Material: Dir-655 with shareport 3.0
2 ACER computers one with vista the other with Windows 7 x64
Printer: Brother DCP 7020

Installation on both computers of the network and sharport was problemless.
The printing on the "vista" computer via USB shareport system was ok.
But on the newest one, the "W7x64": the first attempt never give a print and the others give at most 1/4 of the first page (with a lot of blank pages or not)...Even if i close firewall and antivirus.
The direct connection of the computer with the printer (USB) work just fine.

On my first call, we reinstall everything and verify parameters and nothing change... So a "third level" technician call me back after few days.
We try to find an other driver for my printer because he said that it was a known issue with brother printer, and they found that there is a lake of "generic driver" with this printer. After hours of tests, nothing work and I still have the same problem.

I read a lot of stories on this forum and it seems to be a larger problem... Lexmark owner have the same problem, other x64 windows have the same problem too.

So if somebody somewhere have the answer I think that we are a LOT being interrested in.

If there is no one, I think that we bought a wireless device that need a wire... Congratulation... I don't no but if feel like a dumb...

Thanks
