Degraded RAID -- rebuild?
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:11:22 PM »

I started receiving the message on my 323's status page that my RAID 1 configuration is degraded. What exactly does this mean? Should I manually rebuild to recover from this? Is there a possibility for data loss? I have the most important stuff backup up elsewhere but need to know what I'm getting into before I start...

Here's what the configuration shows:

The second WDD (160GB) drive is connected via fun_plug to the USB port. Obviously it's the two 500GB drives in the bays that hold the RAID configuration.

Any insight?

Thanks in advance!

"degraded" means the raid 1 mirroring is not in sync between the 2 drives. Either you've done something in installing ffp to mess with the status check or the mirroring is indeed out of sync which can be resolved by rebuilding the mirror. If it degrades again, I'd suggest running the manufacturers diagnostic utilities on the drives.

3 x DNS-323 with 2 x 2TB WD Drives each for a total of 12 TB Storage and Backup. Running DLink Firmware v1.08 and Fonz Fun Plug (FFP) v0.5 for improved software support.
