XBOX 360 wireless n adapter
« on: December 17, 2010, 09:05:30 AM »

I can not seem to get my xbox 360 wireless N adapter to pick up the "N" signal from the router... I know the router is sending out an "N" signal because I connected a laptop to it and it ran "N" perfectly.

Any ideas?

What Freg are you using 2.4 or 5Ghz? Have you tried them separately? How about checking G Mode only at 2.4Ghz? Will it pick any mode and frequency up? I bet if its not seeing any mode then the adapter could be defective. I've got to get me one...headed to family for 2 weeks..

2.4Ghz... XBOX works with G mode but won't pick up the N signal.  I know the router is sending out an N signal because one of my newer laptops is picking up the N signal. I just can't seem to figure out how to get the XBOX wireless N adapter to pick up the N signal... I have tried N only on 2.4 and 5Ghz and no luck

does it give any specific channels that i might prefer to have a router set for? I'm headed to get one of these tomorrow I think. Were I'm going only has G but would be interested to know if it works on N. Sounds like if G mode works and your LT picks up N, might be the adapter...

Well, let me know if you find out anything before today or tomorrow. I'm going to go pick one up at Bestbuy. I have 3 routers at my place and will try the all out and post my results here.

Ok man, I just got done with the N adaptor for xbox. I used the cd that came with the adapter first.

I configured the 4500 for N mode only 5Ghz, Auto speed, WPA Personal-WPA2/AES only, and the adapter connected correctly. I played one online game with Black Ops with no lag or any hiccups. I then switched to G Mode Only at 2.4Ghz and did the same thing. Gaming was good. My router is one room over so signal was good. I saw 160Mb speed when I was on 5Ghz.

It also connected to my Apple Extreme router with N however I notice it only connected on A mode and not N. I can't use n only on the Apple so I presume it would however I guess the A mode was preferred.

It also connected to my NetGear 3700 with DD-WRT FW loaded thats setup for 5Ghz N mode only AP bridged mode.

my adapter didn't come with any cd... did the cd update anything on the xbox?  If you have time could you try to get N signal with the 4500 configured for 2.4Ghz N&G?

The Cd said to insert the CD turn off the xbox. Turn on the xbox. If there was anything that it needed to update, there would be NO message once you got to the dashboard. I didn't see anything. Said to eject the CD and connect the adapter.

I will give G and N a try tomorrow when I get up.

Enable Wireless : Always
802.11 Band : 2.4GHz
802.11 Mode : Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g
Enable Auto Channel Scan : Yes
Wireless Channel : ---
Transmission Rate : Best Automatic
Channel Width : Auto 20/40Mhz
Visibility Status : Visible

WPA2 Only
AES
3600 seconds

First I'm going to try to get the CD. Could my Xbox be recognizing the adapter as a regular old G adapter? If that doesn't work I think I might switch to the Linksys E3000 if I can't get the 4500 to work... Plus I will be able to get simultaneous dual band.  Do you have any experience with this router? What do you think of it?

I would get that CD if you can. I just turned on the 4500 WiFi mode again and set it for Mixed G and N at 2.4Ghz and left everything else as before like you have and the xbox picked the N mode for the connection.

IMO the 4500 is the best router for gaming and prefer it over other routers I've tried.

I had the gaming router and had nothing but issues with it. I now have a dir-825 from dlink and I can not connect to my xbox in N mode either. Something with dlink and xbox??? I had to upgrade my firmware to get it to connect to my xbox in g mode. I spent $$$ on this router and does not work like it should with the xbox. I call for help and NO ONE speaks english. Very Very upsetting. Then if you do get someone that speaks broken english they try telling you it is U not the dlink..... I had the old xbox with the n connection. I now have the new xbox s with the built in wifi and still can not connect to the N network. My dell laptop does but my xbox won't? I wish Dlink would fix their issues with this.
