Invalid MAC Address - DIR 825
« on: December 20, 2010, 11:21:19 AM »

I have a brother wireless printer that I was able to "reserve" a IP - 192.168.0.104. I needed to do this as all my PCs will have this setup (port/IP) for printing. The MAC address of Brother printer starts c4.

I have a DIR-655 router where I was able to "reserve" IPs. For some genius reason, DIR-825 put in a rule where you CANNOT reserve a IP if the MAC does not start with 00. I am not sure what the engineer was smoking when they put in this silly check.

When talked to second level of support, his advice was to mess with brother's IP settings and put a static IP address on it !! They are trying to make the wireless printer handle a feature that they have themselves disabled. He was not convinced that this is a incorrect additional check.

I am not a network guru to use VPN or PPOE or other settings. I needed just a couple of features and D-Link has removed some basic setup features. Whatever happened to "Listen to Customer"!

I encountered the same issue, among others, with a brand new DIR-825.  According to the router, its firmware version is 2.02NA, which is over a year and a half old and is the latest version.
