I searched the forums, and didn't find this problem. Here's the setup: Vista Ultimate PC, Toshiba Satellite laptop(Vista). Router DIR-655 A2 firmware 1.05. The current home network, WPA2, works flawlessly with the router and laptop. I will be going on a trip soon, and would like to use the laptop, from a internet connection at the location, to be able to log into my home network (PC machine) for mostly file transfers (pics, vids, etc). Just be able to surf the PC as I can in the network at home. I know that Vista has a vpn setup config I will need to go through.
Do I need to do that on the PC and/or the laptop? If so, will the vpn setup co-exist with my normal netwrk when I am back home again? And, the biggie question, for me: What do I need to do to get the DIR655 configured to do this? Sorry, but I am new to the remote networking thing. Any very helpful how-to links would be great, I have found a couple for the vista setup so far. I am hearing that the 655 doesn't like doing the VPN thing, though. I downloaded the 1.11 firmware in case I need it. I see no VPN options in the 1.05 formware. I can surf around and change the settings in the router fairly competently.
Thanks in advance!
