Hello everyone--this is only my 2nd post.

I have the DIR 655 with the DWA-552 for my desktop that i just bought today.  I also purchased an extreme N one for my notebook so i could go straight 802.11N (Only) on the Router( but as you can see i havent got the other notebook card yet--so i am stuck with G mode.

This is my performance before reading this forum and even knew it was here.



this first photo was taken about 3 hours ago.  Take a look at the 2 photo after reading the 300mbps connection requirements.  I still only get this...WHAT The Hell???



Anyonelse having this problem?  Should I DL the Beta driver for this??

If you move the client closer to the router, does the badnwidth increase?

Here is a look at it today after installing the new beta drivers and the distance is the same.

If the signal is 100% i wouldn't think moving the client any closer to the router would make a difference-your already at 100% right?

I don't know if its too much of a hassle but could we get a screen shot of your wireless settings to see if there is something you might have missed aka channel width auto 20/40 MHz. settings.

i am at work right now but I will get them to you tomorrow morning.

But I have everything set properly.. Its just that this is about 100ft or more away from the router. Which is why I am looking into either running CAT6 cable through the attic and down the wall to the Client from the Router or Buying the ANT24-0230  and hopefully adding more cable to it to allow it to be closer to the DIR 655.

ok here is my screenshot from both adapters  the top adapter is the desktop DIR 552 

the Bottom adapter is the notebook DIR 652.

They have pretty much settled at these numbers




and these are my settings




oh and BTW--i took a look at running Cat6---it would be almost impossible to do.  If i go up through the ceiling with cat6 i run right into the upstairs flooring--and there is no path that i can go from here and i cant get to my downstairs area above the office from my attic.   Any more Suggestions--better Antenna maybe?

as a standard I usually un-check the auto channel scan, and set the channel to channel 1 for Extreme N, 100+ feet is a long way if its gonna be running through walls and rooms to get to the destination. Have you thought about a network bridge DAP 1555 to another router closer to the location? it does involve Double NAT but it would improve your over all connectivity. Dink really needs to work on a wireless repeater in the Extreme N series.

Thanks for the Input--I would assume your just using the DAP1555 as a bridge period right?

What about adding 6-12dBI Antenna's(3 on the DIR655 and 3 on the DIR552)?  I saw these antennas on ebay from Hong Kong which have the Same impedence at 50ohms. 

I will also try your suggestions on Channel 1 and see what happens.  Question though,
is Channel 1 for extreme only?  i guess i dont know what each channel does i thought they were only simply channels of a radio frequency--am i missing something here??

I assume if i were to go with another bridge I could put it half way inbetween the router and the farthest away client.

yes I am using the DAP 1555 as bridge only, don't be confused a bridge is a device that picks up the wireless signal and retransmits it on a LAN connection only. There is no specific channel that is Extreme only I use channel 1 because there are not allot of devices using the 2.412 GHz freq. which is channel 1. that way you get less interference. I hope this information is helpfull.

You are showing what the speed of the connection is, internally. But what is the speed of the connection from the viewpoint of the Desktop Computer and the Laptop Computer?

How fast is the Internet that you are hooking up? What Cable Modem is being employed?
