Various applications not seeing internet
« on: July 09, 2008, 01:11:58 AM »

Am using Shaw Cable. Have DIR 625, C2, firmware upgraded to 3.06.

Been on the phone twice now, thought I'd try these forums.

Ran the install disc. Everything ok.

Wired Desktop working fine.

Wireless Laptop has Firefox and Windows Live Messenger working, but nothing else. Have tried AIM, mIRC, the java installer, etc. Everything else is being blocked. mIRC comes up with "connection refused". Java installer complains about the internet configuration. Other programs just react as though they can't see the connection at all.

Do I need to manually set up exceptions for every single program (this seems daft??!)? Plus I've not successfully created an exception yet. Not on my own or with the help of the phone tech support.

Is there a problem cause it's Shaw? (Have seen lots of complaints about d-link routers and Shaw).

Seems like it's all just being blocked by the firewall, but haven't found a way around it, even with two different technicians suggesting things. We tried creating port forwarding for mIRC alone, turning the dmz on and off. etc etc.

Any ideas?? Do I need a different router??

No it sounds like you simply need to configure your wireless settings. Do you see the SSID?

Could see the SSID yea, had gone through all the settings with the phone technicians.

Got home today and everything was working fine. Going to check with the rest of the household to see if they did something, or if it was just some random anamoly :|

Will let you know, but ty regardless.
