ok  so i already have a DIR-655 this is what i want to do, i want to extend the range because it wont reach my back room and i was thinking about getting another DIR-655 to use as a print server and range extender is this possible? I am currently stationed in germany i aonly have internet in one room in my house. please advise any input is appreciated thanks

Your probably needing an Access Point device or something that can bridge to your current router and then relay and extended your current routers signal farther. Adding another 655 router could work however you would have to connect the 2nd 655 LAN port to the 1st 655 routers LAN port. And you'll have 2 Wireless IDs and you'll have the make sure the channels are separated. Thus you'd have to run a wire. I'd look into a AP device that can bridge and join your current 655 routers wifi then relay and extend your signal farther.

You can use another 655 as an access point if you set it in bridge mode.

Mode is hidden so to view it in the web interface do the following:

Go into Setting > Network Settings

Once on the Network Setting page set the page to view in your browser without a style and you will be able to see Bridge mode setting.

In IE just go to View > Style > No Style to see the following on the Network Setting page:

Awsome tip. Never realized that, makes perfect sense though. I have seen the data in the source, just thought it was comments from old drafts or something.

Question though, doesn't a bridge just bridge from wired WAN to Wireless LAN, as to make it act as a access point for another router? Not from Wireless LAN to Wireless LAN. You would need it acting a repeater for that, which I think you can only do with 3rd party firmware. Correct me if I am wrong though. Have you tried this?

you can also use something like  TrendNet TEW-647GA  called a gaming adapter, but it can also be a wireless bridge into a switch.... $35-ish range on Newegg.....

I also have here in use a few Powerline adapters (aka HomePLug) that work fine for my needs....the newer models say upwards of 200 Mbps between the units....
