I have been reading a bit of conflicting information online, but does the 4500 support MLPPP? I am looking at getting a new internet service with two bonded DSL modems. I was hoping to avoid buying another router.

I presume that your meaning using two separate ISP modems and having them bond and somehow connect to the 4500? I would presume that would not be possible as the 4500 only has one WAN connection. I would venture to say that using just one modem that is DOCSIS 3 that they will bond to there connections to the ISP and the one modem will pass the traffic to the 4500. I have the Motorola SB 6120 and it works great with the 4500 and bonds 3/4 I think.

You can do it with 1 WAN, but you need 3rd party firmware which is not compatible yet with the 4500. Probably will never be compatible with the DGL line because of the hardware differences of the line.

The ISP I'm looking at only has one DSL option in my area. 6/1 is going to be a major speed hit for me so bonding 2 will get me a 12/2 connection.

Tomato is not compatible with D-Link.

You can use dd-WRT, but as you can see, none of the DGL line-up is compatible.

I have usually used another brand for my 3rd party, but a common router for dd-wrt is the DIR-615 E1. 40$ Not bad for what it gives you. Other brands may be cheaper and work better for your purposes though, so start with those lists, shop around, and look at reviews. the dd-wrt forums are top notch, so give them a try.

DD-WRT works well on my NG 3700 router. Been using it as a 5Ghz AP for for wireless gaming on XBL while i've been here at the family for the holidays. Not very user friendly unless you really have good technical understanding.

DD-WRT* has been working very well for over six months on my D-Link 825 Rev.B, in concert with a Motorola SB6120 on a TWC Roadrunner connection.

Not exactly applicable, but it seems to be a pretty solid platform for the DD-WRT code.
